The Liberation of Veccavia Empty
PostSubject: The Liberation of Veccavia   The Liberation of Veccavia EmptySat Aug 20, 2011 8:05 am

Traveling through the mist, the P.R.S. Liberator slowly travels the water across to another land unfamiliar with the many knights aboard. Queen Boadice and Frederick are located on the deck looking into the impenetrable mist. The various men are scattered around the large boat, while a few more boats carrying the rest of the invasion force follows the P.R.S. Liberator. No one has heard of the arrival time of their landing yet, so they must not be close. But inside the Captain quarters, Sir Aranor and Lord Commander Colm Stoutheart are meeting with their various knights to discuss what their plan is. Boadice and Frederick soon join them.

(I will be playing the various NPC's as best as I can in this mission so you can address Boadice, Frederick, etc.)

The Harlequin Rises from his seat and greets all those present

My friends the time has come for us too make our mark upon the world. The lady Boadice will be returned to her throne whether it is at the backing of an armored fist or garlanded in praise from her people.

Have the scouts returned from looking at the beachhead? Is it guarded and awhat are its defenses?

Lady Boadice will any loyal supporters of your throne be waiting with their swords?

Mat rises to voice his opinion.

"The Veccavi are strung out, as most of their royal army has probably gone to attack Pendor. We will probably not meet anyone or have to fight anything at the beachhead, mores the pity... If we do, the Ebony Gauntlet and the Mettenhiem can claim the shore and the Dawn can trample the fleeing under their hooves."

"As for your other question, the system of government the Veccavi Queen is running is sure to cause dissent. Many probably supported other contenders when there favorite candidates were slain. Although they may be afraid to voice it, many people probably dislike the Queen. It is up to Boadice to place an estimate, however..."

After saying this, we sits back down heavily. Sea travel has not been agreeing with him so far.

Boadice listens to the brave knights speak and approaches them slowly

The scouts I have had discovered a secret cove that leads right into the city. We can even dock there. That way we can enter the city by surprise. The Knights of the Dawn will lead their cavalry force around the city, bewildering the people, causing them to panic, while I, Frederick, and the Gauntlets go through the passage and take command of the city and work our way from there. If we get to the armory, that will let us know we have secured the city and then make our way to the castle once the city is under our control. But we shall need brave knights to open the gates of the city so the Knights of the Dawn can enter and sweep through the city.

I will take half my men and accompany you my Lady and send the other half with Mat to take the gate. You will need to give him directions obviously.

I would recommend that when the dawn get into the city they dismount and store their horses under guard somewhere safe. They will just die if resistane comes to be and they are mounted in narrow city streets.

The harlequin turns to Frederick,

mijn friend do you have anything to say? Your word is valued greatly in these councils.

"Some of the Dawn should be mounted, as the streets of the Veccavi city are no doubt wide enough for the cavalry to charge on. If we must sweep through the side-streets though, a man on a horse makes a bigger target then a foot soldier."

City streets are far to narrow to allow their destriers access. They will be unable to turn around and it will be a slaughter.

They are prodgious fighter with or without their war mounts and should be on foot to fully utilize their abilities.

The big warrior stands thinking for a moment, twirling his bushy moustache between thumb and forefinger. Eventually he speaks, slowly as if still considering what he says.

"I have one concern mijn friend, my greatswords must have the space to wield our weapons. Send your most hardy men first, let the enemy come out of the houses and cluster to attack you in numbers. Once they are out in the streets my greatswords can cause much butcher, and our mounted friends can also use their horses more effectively. The streets that are too narrow for us to fight in, will be perfect for you and your men, Colm."

Aye and I have a plan of battle for that already lined up my friend. You may have been present at the battle of the Kappel when the Barclay forces attacked in force along a border defended by a small Mettenheim contingent and a few mercenary companies including my own. We had to hold them back at a trade outpost on the border. We were unfortunately pushed back to fighting in the pathways leading to the donjon and found that alternating our sword and board troops with our bigger greatsword men filling in gaps.

My men with shields would break open the lines and the greatswords would rush into these gaps made and enlarge them, quickly followed by more of my men. We called it the dragons tooth and found it worked to our advantage.

As for the horses I stand firm that they will be made worthless in the streets. They will be able to go two abreast at best likely and will be unable to turn their mounts about if needed. They will run over innocent citizens if they build up to a charge before they get off the streets and will eventually be mobbed by the lack of room

OOC:

okay seriously guys that is the width we are talking expanded for a more modern time.

Frederick smiles at the logic.

"You are right mijn friend, I am not used to fighting with cavalry and know little of their limitations. So long as allowance has been made for my swords to swing properly, then I am content! This is why I prefer fighting on foot, you do not have to worry about turning great big lumbering beasts around in battle. The only movements that matter, are your own and those of the man trying to kill you."

[[OOC: I know, I used to live in a medieval city with streets like that. I was doing this from the perspective of Fred's limited knowledge of cavalry forces.]]

My friend I hold the same reservations about horses. Nasty and fickle beasts my legs can carry me more safely to my destination.

The Harlequin turns to address the group as a whole,

Are there any other concerns that need to be addressed?

Mat, you may take your pick of the men as your task holds great importance and you will have little support. My Queen I would ask that you give Mat a few of your true veccavian to lead him to the gate where the KOTD will be waiting.

Also Sir Aranor leave a fraction of your force outside the gates to scout for any advancing enemy forces and raid and disrupt enemy communications out of the city.

OOC: Not meant to insult just wanted to shed some light on what exactly our surroundings would be. I imagine quite a few of us live in the States where narrow medieval streets are far from the norm.

I agree good Frederick. Also, my fellow knights approve of the plans put forward by the herald.

Also, I propose that either some ebony knights or mercenary troops get on the walls of the city to provide cover for our troops.

Do you agree?

30 of my swiftest knights will patrol and reconnoiter the surrounding villages and outposts. If Possible they will cause havok, if not they will cause distractions.

May I ask for the protection of the children and unarmed? I do not want innocent blood shed, the male slaves will no doubt fight with the women.

Have your men avoid bloodshed. These are Queen Boadice's subjects. Only attack those who attack you. Inform all the villagers and villages you encounter that their rightful queen is returned.

Their main task would be to prevent any enemy communications from leaving the city. Also spreading the word of Boadices return and raising support for her rule.

Mat thought, scratching the stubble that had grown while he was on the ship.

"I would like the fastest men we have, not the strongest. Also, a few Mettenhiem Greatswords would be of no complaint, as we may have to fight at the gates, where there will be plenty of room for you to swing."

Mat turned to Boadice, voicing a concern.

"The Veccavians will not know we are here, so I may be able to fight to the armory and take it before they realize what is happening, which leads me to a problem. My main concern with this operation is that none of us know much about the layout of the city. If you could give us details on where things are then we could be more able to plan."

Queen Boadice, having taken in everyone's words lays out a map of the city showing each detail to the brim, including the secret passageway, clearly this was a special map.

Here we have the layout of the city. This part of the commons is easy to navigate and the roads and plaza are more then enough. But then Mat can head up with his assigned men and take the walls and open the city gates for the Knights of the Dawn to enter and sweep out the commons of resistors, if any Veccavia units surrender, take them prisoner, but no torture, they will be loyal to me once we take the city from Valorna. Once the first gate is open, its the second wall we will have to get through, but thats where the Ebony Gauntlets come in, they will appear from the armory and open the second walled gates to enter the noble residential area. Then once that small section is secure we can control the city and plan what goes from there to take the castle. Does everyone follow?

Yes and my men are ready and prepared to execute their assigned tasks.

One final addendum I see is that we should seize the royal ladies in their homes. Gather them up and bring them to the keep so we can keep an eye on them. Gaining their support will be easier if none are allowed to escape the city while it is being taken and you will also have hostages of their men and children in case they do not cooperate.

OOC: while the use of hostages may appear brutal it was common practice in the medieval setting in which POP takes place. They were hostages but the children would be called pages and squires of the lord in question all kept and nurtured as a vital bargaining chip in case of rebellion or war.

Yes Lord Commander Colm, you are correct, I want every prisoner who surrenders or is caught of guard taken hostage until I gain crownship so they can swear homage to me. Slay no children, they are the future. Sack every home of people are relocate them to the Commons plaza. I will have no raiding of the homes, since they will return there after I am declared Queen and all is safe. I hope you good sir knights will listen. I have faith in yous.

Looks at the Harlequin with the most emotional and serious eyes. And does the same looking around the table in the quarters.

I serve the People of Pendor. Their voice is High King Mordred and his wish is to accommodate your desires.

All will occur as you have so far asked your majesty.

May I suggest however that the KOTD who will be following behind the main thrust into the city collect up the prisoners and police behind us mopping up any resistance. Certainly men bedecked in white will cause less distress among the residents than my black clad men. It will also streamline our armored push to the main keep.

When will the fleet land in the cove?
