1) We Westerners have a window of freedom that was never available before: information flows rather freely and we have access to most kinds of theoretical knowledge. I think this is a great moment for mankind, one which should be kept running for as long as possible.

2) Sure, one can acquire knowledge outside universites. However, the best thing you learn there are skills (how to think critically, how to do research) and people (you make contact with different people, some of which may become important scientists, mayors, CEOs, senators or dictators; contacts are an important part of business). To be honest, I forgot most of the theoretical knowledge I got from my BA, but the skills are still there. So, if you have the means for making contacts and learning skills somewhere else, then, I agree, an university isn't really necessary.

Of course, in an ideal country children would develop those skills in middle school and wouldn't need an university to get them. But that doesn't happen.

EDIT: correction: from personal experience I found out that not every CEO has university degrees (some can't even use grammar properly). However, they know how to run a company and they make good money with it, which, for me, is something as praiseworthy as a phd title.

I will be on intermittently for the next week or so until the 11th of December. I should have internet access, but no where near my usual amount, so my time here during that time will be severely curtailed.

Will be absent starting the 10th up to Feb. 13th, out of country on vacat...i mean holiday study
I'll still be here, just not checking in as often. Unless my holiday turns out to be very bad, in where I may have to rely on one of you to get the word back to America, and come save me. While America is here...

I have to be absent for a few days. Extreme stress at the moment, can't handle all the problems suddenly popping up. Nothing definitely bad, just lots of short-term work because other people are dicks.

It shouldn't last longer than Tuesday, sorry for the short notice.

I know that several of you are waiting for replies / feedback, but I am currently rather busy (Yay Christmas!), however I do have 8 Aftermath tabs open, to remind me of each topic and I will try and get back to you as soon as I can... most likely in a couple of days.

Back from Christmas visitations, catering for 40 people at New Year Razz

I'm a good cook, but I might have bitten off more than I can chew this time. (No pun intended.)

Unfortunately, someone who has been like a little sister to me is dying. She's in the final days of Stage IV lung cancer, and will pass within two weeks.

Unfortunately, Aftermath has not been one of my priorities right now. I will try and fulfill a few duties as the voice, but I can't say when I'll be able to muster the ability to be fully active.

Don't worry about Aftermath, she's much more important than that. I wish the best for both of you.
