IC-Scane: A Night at the Sleeping Fox Tavern

Allowed participants:
  • Thaddeus (controlled by Daedr0th)

  • Laralthir (controlled by Aranor)

You made through the gates of the city and spent the day following your orders. Your men return shortly before curfew to the Inn, which is scarcely visited due to the Red Dawn presence and your approaching army. Then it is time to collect the information you were able to gather...

You are absorbed in the discussion when one of your sentries rushes to your table. There is movement outside! Dozens of men pour into the streets from the numerous alleyways, surrounding the tavern. Knights of the Red Dawn, a few retainers and many men looking like militia. Some of them carry shields and and torches, others bows and again others bundles of dry wood, wooden planks and hammer and nail. The militia charges forward, the shield-bearers trying to cover their comrades that pile up wood around the building, start to board up the windows, and push a cart loaded with dry wood before the door. The archers shoot at anyone visible behind the windows.
On the command of the leading Red Dawn knight, everything is set ablaze.

Time to act.

Azlanek: Please state what your characters are trying to do in short, understandable sentences. Feel free to add detailed Rp separately, either before or after the “intentions”, but I will mostly work with the “intentions” so we can handle this rather quickly.

PostSubject: Re: IC-Scene: A Night at the Sleeping Fox Tavern   IC-Scene: A Night at the Sleeping Fox Tavern EmptyFri Jan 06, 2012 8:20 am

Ill put intentions first

INTENTIONS:
Laralthir shall first tell Thaddeus they need to get out.
Laralthir shall tell Thaddeus the plan.
Laralthir shall then throw a chair through one of the windows far away from the door.
Laralthir shall then with the aid of 6 EGs provide a distraction while Thaddeus gets outside and Secure the innkeeper

RP:

Laralthir gets up from his table, sprinting into action.

"Thaddeus, here's the plan, get your men out, I heard a cart being pushed outside the door so that should stop any immediate on-rushers, guess they didn't realize that the door was a push not pull door. Leave 6 men here, but get everyone else out, form a defensive line outside and prepare to meet the attackers."

Laralthir then sprints to the other side of the room, as far away as he could get, and picks up one of the wooden chairs.

He looks to the innkeeper
"put this on our tab"

He takes a breath, and throws it through the window, knocking over the saps trying to board it, and then dropping down to the floor to escape any return arrows.

The six EG's crawl to him under the tables.

"We are going to distract the archers as our friends get out, you 3 shall fire crossbow bolts, and you 3 shall cover them. I'll be getting the innkeeper, maximum 3 rounds of bolts then we run, blind-fire if that's the only way you can stay safe, we can't afford for the building to collapse while we are still inside. Also try not to inhale to much smoke."

Laralthir then crouched and crept over to the cowering innkeeper

"Don't worry Fjolfr, Ill escort you personally to safety."

He then had Fjolfr stay close behind, as close as a shadow.

The chair Laralthir throws is not nearly heavy enough to smash through the planks and bounces back into the room. The blazing fire makes it almost impossible for the knights to see and they fire their three arrows blindly into the knight. Arrows smash into the windows in response, but only a few find their way into the tavern, hitting one of the knights in the shoulder, but not penetrating his mail shirt.

At the same time, you pull the door open, and are greeted by the hellish heat of the flames. The door scarcely two men are able to throw their weight against the loaded cart. It barely moves at first. Scores of arrows now pour through the open door into the building, hitting mostly shields, but sending one of the knights down by bouncing off his coil.

Slowly the cart moves away from the door and the first two of your men step unto the street, shields strapped unto their backs while they push with their shoulders. Now they present a much better target to the archers surrounding the building, and while their shields take many of the hits for them, they both go down, one with an arrow to the leg, the other to the ass. Your men have to pull them back into the building, or risk trampling them to death.

Urged by their officers, the militia moves forward, closer to the burning building. The men who had pushed the cart before the door once again throw their weight against the vehicle, making it much harder for you to push it farther away. There is only a small gab now, through which maybe one person can squeeze at a time. Your troops still amass behind the taverns entrance. By now the flames have ignited the wood of the tavern as well, smoke begins to fill the room, making it hard to breathe.

Above the tavern, among the rooftops of Javiksholm, sat a single man. As the building burned, great clouds of smoke filled the air, obscuring him from sight, but if he was bothered by this he didn't show. He seemed to pay no heed to the scene below, or his own health, ignoring the cries from both inside and outside the tavern. As the blaze picked up and the man could feel the heat surely as if he were standing next to it, he began to move. And from where he sat, almost unnoticed, a noise rang out.

Music.

As the tavern blazed below him, the man occupied himself with one thing; playing his fiddle. For what else, should a fiddler care for?

INTENTIONS:

Laralthir runs into the innkeeper's quarters, and grabs several shirts of his.
Laralthir rips up the shirts with a crossbow bolt.

(due to the red dawn being all orthodox, they will probably make the inns stop serving alcohol (less drunks, less time), leaving them with less business. They will probably be left with serving water and food.)

Laralthir dips the cloth pieces in the water barrels and gives each knight one to breathe better in (pieces are big enough to tie around their mouth).

Laralthir orders the knights to use mugs and bowls to try and extinguish the closest flames.

Laralthir and 6 knights draw their weapons and try to get out the back door to see what lies in store out there.

Making the breather pieces → works, but making 30 of them takes some time

- There is still beer and wine in the tavern.

Your men try to extinguish the flames, but the building was set aflame from the outside, which is impossible for your men to reach. So overall they achieve very little.

- Smoke starts to become so sick inside the building that it starts to obscure your men's vision.

At the front door your men still hold the door open, hiding behind their shields while arrows rain down on them. All the while the Red Dawn closes the gab and finds something to block the wagon's wheels. After that they set out to pile up more wood on the wagon.

The situation at the back door is similar. You can see the flames through the windows and hear the chant of the soldiers outside. The door is planked up, and this time it opens to the outside Wink.

In order to move on to the siege and so that all players can become more active in this again, I am wrapping up this scene.

Daedr0th and Aranor: I want one last statement from both of you (seperately). Just the basic notion about what you want to do given the situation. Do you want to attack the forces outside the tavern, are you trying to hide, do you try to escape with all your men or are you sacrificing some of your men so that the others might stand a better chance to escape...you get the picture.

You are of course welcome to decide on the same thing, but if your characters would decide differently that is totally okay as well. Just do what comes naturally.

After reading Laralthir's application, it seems that his character is the honorable type, the one that wants to save everyone, even though he is a mercenary captain, who knows that costs must be accepted.

I think Laralthir would want to try and save everyone. And to stay true to his character, ill try that.

[ooc: That depends on what you want to post. I will certainly wait for him before I close this scene. If you think what you have in mind is relevant before I do that, go ahead.]

PostSubject: Re: IC-Scene: A Night at the Sleeping Fox Tavern   IC-Scene: A Night at the Sleeping Fox Tavern EmptyWed Feb 08, 2012 1:40 pm

Intentions:

1. Sir Laralthir and Sir Thaddeus

We are going to try and leave the tavern through the sides of the cart outside the front door. With our knights, all bracing shields, following closely behind. As soon as we get out (L&T) we will crouch and protect the knights that are coming out through the slots, and brace ourselves against the arrows and the charging militia.

As this is happening, 7 knights armed with crossbows will go up to the second floor, and do whatever they can to make distractions, firing bolts, throwing chairs, killing militia. As soon as 15 knights get out of the tavern, a knight will go up and get them out.

(note: as this is our last ditch effort, our knights are probably going to fight more desperately.)

2. Survive. We will form a shield wall, and fight against the militia. If we suffer more than 7 casualties, then we scatter and run throughout the city.

PostSubject: Re: IC-Scene: A Night at the Sleeping Fox Tavern   IC-Scene: A Night at the Sleeping Fox Tavern EmptyTue Feb 14, 2012 11:11 pm

You fight your way out of the tavern, hardly pressed by showers of arrows, followed by the militia' spears. You cut a bloody path through a portion of the militia once you got close enough, but with the Red Dawn knights joining the fray, you eventually take your seven losses and squatter. Now unprotected by a tight formation, more and more arrows strike true. You reach one of the nearby crossroads, only to hear another battlecry, as mounted knights atop armoured destriers charge down the street, lances crouched under their arms. The effect on those men who stand in their way is devastating and you cannot help but acknowledge how well this trap was set.

A few minutes later, Sir Thaddeus finds himself in a narrow alley, several hundred meters away from the Sleeping Fox. One other knight is with him, looking expectantly at his comrade, unsure what to do. You have no idea how many of your brothers are dead, captured or still running through the streets.

[Until further notice Laralthir is MIA]

Thaddeus stops and sighs "We've got no other choice, we're stuck in the city, even if we do escape, they'll hunt us down and we risk letting them the location of the Dawn's camp" he drops his weapons, turning his glance to his companion "Run if you wish comrade." Thaddeus promptly walks outside the alley, hands held high.
