My first thoughts on the method we are testing:

- shields give a lot of speed penalty. some additional protection to balance that would be nice. such as absolute immunity against ranged weapons. Or knockdown by shield-bashing.

- clear understanding of the pace: PM-post-PM-post.

- Perhaps next time we should change to blunt weapons for realism.
sword --> wooden stick
spear --> wooden staff (with a blunt metal tip)
two-handed axe --> large mace.

- for the combat games, perhaps they should happen in two levels, for organization purposes:

1. intra-order fights: members of the same order fight among themselves. the one knight to win is the one that goes to the finals.
2. inter-order fights: winners of the 7 orders fight among themselves.

The bonuses you mention for shields seem good, but more account will need to be taken for directions of attacks. Also, seeing as this is RP, there are more things we can do with shields (sling on back, throw, use to break spears, knock weapons away etc.)

Training swords exist in the continuity, just have them.

The intra-order thing may not work for smaller/less active orders. Also remember that this is signing you up to running a LOT of competitions at once.

Thanks for the feedback.

attacks from multiple directions lead to heavy penalties, unless your character is described as having keen senses. if it's one on one, we assume that the shielder knows what he is doing (he is an elite warrior, after all).

shields, just like any other thing, can be used in many different ways. the simplicity of the calculations allows you to do literally anything you want. you are not restricted.

Ideally, one host will coordinate only one fight at a given time. one fight is already very demanding.

training swords it is, then.

Perhpas for the future we have clearly defined arenas mapped out before the battle with all the distinguishing features. Also perhaps a pre battle and post battle phase, where characters can do other things, like slip a broken shield into the opponents inventory, or gang up with all the losers post game to assualt the victor when there alone.

Thanks. Yes, perhaps a simple screenshot of those reworked Arenas in the Pop working mod thread in the TW forum.

It all depends on how much you can take, as it will be a mighty work to do that. Remember that roughly 80% of the active players will participate, which makes more then 10 fights to handle.

By the way, I'm waiting for one more input before calculating the next round. It's getting good now.
