During breaks from the RP, I thought that we could maybe perform some miscellaneous actions to attempt to boost our influence in and around Singal. These actions wont be very intensive, probably quite menial to be honest, but if they help to increase our influence over Singal then hopefully it should be worth it in the end. (Hope this is acceptable Iskar!)

I was thinking perhaps we should be limited to one or two actions per week so we dont abuse the ability to build influence though.

Action: Celdiur goes forth into District 1 to preach to the people. He will preach the words of Astraea in an attempt to convert members of the populace. He will also attempt to uplift the downtrodden with sermons of combined efforts and community spirit, and encourage all to work together with the Eventide to create a brighter future for all that would support us.

Action: Varys goes into District 7 and 'deals' with some of the more outspoken resistance against the Eventide. He will go and send some squires for reconnaissance, and try to find out as much as he can about the district and it's targets. Varys will assemble different poisons and different weapons to make sure each death is different. He will try to become 'friends' with the Slavers and try to get into their ranks. He will then approach them himself, and do the deed. He tries to assassinate several different people, and takes care to make them look like accidents and draw no suspicion to himself. He doesn't go bearing any signets, and tries to remain undetected and unknown.

The first assassination will be a prominent Slaver head. Varys will pretend to be a new recruit to the Slavers and try to get into the order. He will do whatever he deems necessary to get close to the Slaver head, and assassinate him. He will use a crossbow and paint it red, and paint the bolt red, leaving it behind hoping to implicate the RB. He will take the utmost precaution to not get caught. Varys will disguise himself in a ragged sellsword outfit, and try to offer his services to the Slavers.

Varys will try to find out as much as he can about the Slaver head by frequenting the local taverns, brothels, and drug dealers. He will prepare poison (slow acting) to give him if he is alcoholic, poisoned opium, or kill him while he is in a brothel and frame the 'mistress'. He will also frequent the local RB or guard quarters, and find out information about it. Varys will take care to make sure he has a plan of escape from every situation, and see if the local RB or such can help him. He will also make sure that the Singalian Army will be framed if he acquires the help of the RB, but if he doesn't acquire the help of the local RB, he will frame the RB instead.

If the Slaver head is greedy, he will tell him of a secret black market where people sell all sorts of things, and lead him to a spot to be assassinated from the shadows if he agrees to go. If the Slaver head is lustful, see that a Singalian Temptress or an assassin is payed half of the amount up front to assasinate him, and when she comes back to accept payment, have her killed/assassinated from the shadows and the payment secured.

The assassinations would require a bit more work beforehand. Try to develop your steps a bit more.

Is that already the updated version I see above?

An assassination would have a rather remarkable effect and therefore must not be taken lightly, unless you want to face considerable chances of failure or even detection, notwithstanding capture and death. I suggest you lay out plans for one assassination en detail to start with and we shall see how it works out.

Hmm, I'm afraid this is still a bit sketchy. The problem is, I could tell you what would be necessary, but then it would not be your accomplishment. Therefore one more hint: Think about what you would have to do and prepare to enact the assassination, particular precautions, plans, ruses, etc. You can furthermore assume that the victim has one or two minor weaknesses that you might be able to find out about. The question is how?

PS: Sometimes I have the feeling of raising a dangerous enemy here...

PPS: Minor weaknesses are such things as being addicted to a certain (non lethal) drug, employing the services of a local brothel regularly, being prone to gluttony, having a personal enemy in the local organisation, etc.

That is better. Next time, try not to write "I take all possible precautions", write out at least some of them, exemplifiyng your actions. Same goes for all cases where you wrote similar phrases.

I'll give you both a bonus to influence, +2 for each month (metagame turn) Celdiur is preaching, including last turn and for at most two more turns (then he would have to shift to another district or maybe try other methods).

Varys's assassination will give a one time +6 (3 base bonus + 3 from a 1d4 dice roll to account for the random effects of a successful assassination).

Maybe it's time to restart this? Haha

Varys will go into District 7 and put up heretical posters in the middle of the night. He will try to spread the cabal's influence and he will do it under the cover of darkness. He will scout the area beforehand, and observe the area for a few night, making sure to note the placement of any people. He will then go out, dressed in dark clothes, with a mask, and put these fliers up. He will make sure to put them in the areas were the less than fortunate people live, so that they have a greater impact on them.

The fliers/posters will contain a heretical writing, blaming Astraea for everything wrong, and talk about how much better Ocissor treats her followers. Emphasize the power, wealth, and health a person can get, and continue to rant about how the Church is corrupt, and that Ocissor is the one true goddess, as her followers can actually be granted miracles.

I can give you the result for that action immediately:

The poor and destitute at which you aimed the propaganda marvelled at the flyers, but, illiterate as they mostly were, had no clue what the writings on them told. When some of the wealthier and better educated citizens of Singal discovered the posters, the city watch was informed quickly and removed them.

Varys will go into District 6 and 7 and put up heretical posters in the middle of the night. He will try to spread the cabal's influence and he will do it under the cover of darkness. He will scout the area beforehand, and observe the area for a few night, making sure to note the placement of any people. He will then go out, dressed in dark clothes, with a mask, and put these fliers up. These are where the tradesmen reside, and therefore they are literate and can read the fliers.

The flyers were removed almost as quickly as the ones before but some of your heretic liaisons inform you that in the aftermath of the action some trades- and craftsmen with greedy eyes approached them.

Result: Corruption of Craftsmen raised by 2 points to 7%. Influence bonus of +1 will be applied. (Don't get confused because this bonus is lower than the ones I gave you before. Effectively the influence scale has been halved in the new metagame, 50 being a lord and 80 a duke, so I have to make these steps here smaller, too, lest I wanted to unbalance things.)

Celdiur will go to the the larger markets of the city in an attempt to use his linguistic skills to create lasting arrangments with merchants both large and small.

He will negotiate deals for the merchants to sell goods at a discount to the Eventide with promises of favour with the Order and greater rewards and benifits to come for their support. If any amongst them are religious, Celdiur will attempt to inspire a sense of piety among them, instilling a belief that the Gods will reward them well for aiding an order of holy warriors, and perhaps attempting to persuade them to give a percentage of their wares away for free to the cities poorest.

Any goods aquired through these arrangements would then be charitably given out amongst the needy by the Eventide itself, or sold on very cheaply if need be, to bolster support for our cause amongst the common populace of Singal.

Thash Kor leads this front by personally overseeing the giving out of these items as well as advertising the graciousness of the knights of the Eventide. Taking careful note those of which are strong and handle themselves well around a crowd. At the end of each taking his report back to Ser Varys.

The merchants are not too enthusiastic about trading their money and wares for honeyed words. Some few are moved by Celdiur's speech, but they are laughed at by their fellow traders. What little donations the Eventide gets is distributed among the needy by Thash Kor, and accepted gladly (or greedily?), though it is definitely not enough to reach larger parts of the populace.

[Results: +0.01 local merchants, +0.01 local peasants at Singal]
