You have a nobleman who has a stronger claim to the throne than Mordred?

Practically every nobleman? Mordred fufilled a prophesy and united a land by strength and diplomacy.

What is merit compared to a great-grandfather on your mother's mother's side?

Every nobleman has a better claim.

Technically, Mordred usurped the throne. He conquered the land and took it from the true kings of Pendor.

Though the noble with the highest claim to the throne of Pendor is Darlion. He would be the only one taken seriously besides Valdemar.

Actually I disagree.. No nobleman has a claim to the silver throne!
To certain holdings sure.. but the throne. no.

Actually, lore-wise Mordred has a similar claim to the throne as Darlion, and it will come through with the Griffon signet-ring test that proves lineage.

The difference is that Darlion knows precisely his family tree, while Mordred only knows that he is of Royal blood, but not his actual ancestry.

In lore-terms I do actually know the precise lineage of the Player, though I am on pain of death from SD not to reveal precisely how or why. In game terms, this translates as Mordred's royal blood, though he cannot trace his family.

I knew it! The character in PoP is Astraea's child!

So much for the Celestial Virgin.

Astraea may be divine, but that does not mean she is royal.

Astraea? Don't be daft.

Mordred is the son of the Fish Knight. A legendary figure that far outclasses your little goddess of justice.

BLASPHEMY!

The fish knight has no living hiers, he ascended to heaven, anyone who thinks children of the fish knight walk among us must be executed for heresy.

A folk legend, hero of the people, the Legendary Knight.

He splendored in the Pendorian Stories thread and somehow got famous.

Are his rumours still in the latest version of Pendor? I haven't played it yet (need to get into M&B again sometime).

He was nooser's first character before he made El Loco I think, and as each developer gets a mention in the rumours, that was his.

Not quite Mordred. Nooser may have put forth the idea behind the scene but the guy who made him was here:

Ah my bad! I knew they took some of the story thread concepts and implemented them into the game, that being one example. Frederick and Mettenheim being another Smile

Thinking of Mordred's past as made me think of Mordred's present, or rather, the present of those that don't particularly care for him.

I imagine there are significant numbers of surviving nobles/plutocrats that were very attached the previous disunity. Some of these may have already been presented in the metagame, but who are the leading anti-Mordred figures currently? Whether somewhat openly at Court or more secretively in their places of exile?

If there is resistance, it isn't open. Mordred has the Royal Army and the Orders backing him up; he holds the ultimate jurisdiction in Pendor.

I'm sure that some are displeased of Mordred and would leap at the chance to secretly support another claimant, scheming behind his back, but there are the Griffin to take care of plotting.

All in all, scheming among mere landlords isn't very profitable in Pendor at the moment. You either go with the current flows or perish, unless you have something more to back you up than your title and estates.

Scheming is always profitable! (Or it results in the loss of one's head. >.>)

The primary contender is the Lord of Marleons (his name escapes me), he has ignored the Law of Halves and is well known to dislike Mordred, though he has done little to directly oppose him.
