| Mordred stood at the window of his chamber, looking out over the city of Sarleon. The capital faded into the distance, the city walls just visible on the horizon, shimmering in the heat and partially obscured by the dirty smoke that rose from the many smithies far below. Today the sky was darker than usual, similar to the effect of heavy clouds pregnant with rain only now the sky was clear. The king heard a slight shuffle behind him, but did not turn, having caught the feminine scent on the breeze. Gudrun closed behind him and wrapped her arms around his middle, her head tucking in against his shoulder. “Is it true? The rumours I mean?” she asked tentatively. She felt Mordred nodding, and buried her head in his side in sorrow. The king continued to gaze out of the window. Discomfort hung between them, Gudrun knew her husband had been close to the man, but how does one console someone after the passing of one of their closest friends? “They say he died well, like a hero” Gudrun uttered finally, her soft voice breaking the silence that hung between them like a curtain. Mordred shifted and turned, stepping into her embrace and rested his head atop hers. This time the silence between them was different, more comfortable, as each took strength in the presence of the other, both lost in their own memories of the deceased. Eventually Gudrun pulled away, and looked closely into her husband’s face. His youthful looks seemed to have aged, his shoulders were slumped but his eyes remained clear, glittering with an inner fire. “You must tell them, let the people know of the passing of such a legend. May his name be sung in the temples and taverns throughout the kingdom tonight” Gudrun said, her gaze locked on the eyes of her husband. He nodded, and Gudrun dashed to the small writing table that stood by the door. Slowly, Mordred began to speak and his wife dutifully wrote his words on the parchment ready to be copied and sent throughout Pendor. - Quote :
- “My dearest Lords and Ladies,
It is with deep sadness that I write to you on this dark day, and announce the passing of one of the most beloved men in the Kingdom. Sir Roland and his guards were en-route to meet with their Grandmaster to discuss the future direction of their Order, when his party was ambushed by a number of heretical forces. It is with sorrow that I must pronounce that there were no survivors."
Sir Roland worked tirelessly in the name of his beloved goddess, Astraea to see that the people of Pendor had sustenance and security in what was its darkest hour, striking at cruelty and deprivation wherever he walked. Even now that the lands are united he continued to fight in the name of justice and right, turning back darkness wherever it tried to settle in the lives of the common man.
I know that he would not have us mourn for him, forgetting all that he has done in our grief, but rather that we embrace what his achievements and work to see his principles carried forward. Let us not sit in sadness, but instead celebrate all that we have and love.
My people, open your doors and hearts to those around you, and act like Sir Roland did throughout his life. Let us not grieve, but rather remember, remember all that he did and all that he wanted to do, and let us all promise to continue his great work.
Signed,
King Mordred” The scratching on the parchment stopped, and the rustle of silk followed Gudrun out of the room. Mordred watched her leave, but then turned back to the window and looked once more over his capital and his kingdom beyond it. His eyes narrowed and he clenched his fist, then he turned abruptly away and left the room. Outside it began to rain.

| *Letter sent from Sir Malificar*truly, though they were my orders enemies, it is a sad day. peace was about be restored between our two great orders, and for something like this to happen... most disastorous. you can count on the knights of the eventide to hunt the heritics down, and slay them to a man. *end of letter* | |

| (This letter comes in significantly later than the others for roleplay purposes)
Emirat Legi scribes for lok.
"My lord, while i did not know of this man before i heard this sad news, it seems from your description that he was a man the people could trust and get help from. I grieve for the kingdom losing such a man and if i ever fight the heretics, i hope many will fall to my axe. Nevertheless as you said he would not want us to grieve for him, i will not do as such. My hopes are that we will not lose many more men that makes this country safe to live in, whether they are in the orders, or are simple caravan guards, i wish safety for all men who protect the kingdom of Pendor"

| A quickly scribbled letter soon arrived for the King, from a man named Ser Varys.
"My lord, although we were fighting the Dawn, the Eventide are truly sorrowed. He was a worthy man of being Astraea's champion. I shall strive to follow in his footsteps, and help the common man, and ensure that justice is served to the killers. I can only hope they are found before long. Do not grieve either, my lord, and hold your head up high. We of the Eventide will support you with all of our might."
Ser Varys, the Spider.

| A letter arrives by a messenger to Sarleon.
My King,
When I was traveling with you army when I was younger, I had two people I looked up to. One was my father. The other was, may he rest in peace, Sir Ronald. I've had heard stories about him in the camp. The men talked how skilled he was in battle and how he fought for justice and righteousness. When I finally met him, he had such a bright aura that surrounded him. He inspired me to do so much more then to just fight. I am only one of the people whose life he has inspired. The whole kingdom will not forget what he has done. And most of all I won't forget him.
Condolences from, Aldric of Marleons

| To my Liege,
My Liege I grieved to hear the loss of your stalwart brother, Sir Roland. He was a true man of the realm and never has a more chivalrous knight been known. He was a shining beacon of hope for the sad and oppressed peasantry of the realm and I know he was dear to you yourself as well. I leave you with my sincere condolences and a hope you shall soon be able to speak of him with joy rather than sorrow as you remember the great things he accomplished in his lifetime.
Your True Servant,
Colm Stoutheart | |

- We offer our consolidation for the great knight of dawn, Sir Roland. His death does not shake us like it shakes you, but the reason for it is a certain cult..
