Aahh, internal conflict. Thought you meant between characters.

I felt the need and took the freedom to intervene at this point. Ask your questions to Aranor and otherwise leave the discussions for later - outside the trial.

@Tubby: Did you consider that, while one might discuss whether Pendor is still a fully feudal kingdom, all precedent kingdoms definitely were such, and that thus their kings were not absolute? Lucius is free to say whatever he wants, just wanted to make sure you did not work with wrong premises unknowingly.

@Marcus: The council held no power of its own. The king commanded it to formulate recommendations for him. ... And the word is decree, if you forgive me the orthography-nazism.

I'm not talking about the ones just before the unification, it was pretty much a hypothetical.

Alrighty.

Hopefully this will stir more drama.

Barclay is an absolute monarchy, of the European sense. The overseas administration is another matter.

I see, I thought Barclay was ruled by the religious people. So they have a King too? What is the connection between religion and the King?

What does Barclay have to do with Pendor?

Also, if I remember correctly Barclay has an emperor whose power is more similar to the position of the holy roman emperor with a multitude of pretty much autonomous sub-kingdoms, i.e. far from absolute.

In general absolute monarchies would be something rather strange to the people living in the world of Pendor, it being a medieval world with pronounced feudal relations.

Since we're digressing, can a GM please confirm the government type of the old Baccus Empire? And of of the Noldor as well? Though I risk saying that the latter would mirror Pendor's.

Barclay is secular, this was part of the reason they kicked the Dawn out, the church was imposing on the rights of the nobles. The government in Barclay is modelled on Medieval France, with a weak king, and very powerful provincial nobles, however if the ire of the whole Empire is raised, then they become very powerful indeed.

The Noldor are probably more like a Noble Republic, don't quote me on that though.

I thought Barclay was modeled on the Habsburg style of absolutism? (IE, co-opt the nobility into the central and imperial governments rather than the middle class, but without feudal rights.)

Had I been on the Dev team when Barclay was devised I would have gone along with something more akin to that, unfortunately SD didn't want to change it.

Not particularly, you do have influence in some small areas of barclay though.

Could make for an interesting event in the RP if a strong king took the throne of Barclay. One who could bring the nobility to heel, who knows what he could attempt...

Please post your answer to Lucius's question soon, Aranor. Celdiur and Marcus may have questions, too and I will lock the thread (european) tomorrow evening.

Celdiur and Marcus,

Please post your questions simultaneously. It would be easier to answer them both at the same time.

Since the king is also a judge, does he ask questions as well?

The king does not act as a judge. He only determines the punishment should your character be found guilty.

He's not a judge only so long as the judges give the correct judgement.

As a reminder: For reasons of fairness please refrain from messaging the players of the judges when your characters cannot talk to the latter quietly, especially during the time they ponder their verdicts.
