Since I created Mastifus I will determine his persona. But Mordred will approve or edit it such once I get to it. I might as well do the other orders as well. But I think there's a thread that's done that already idk ill look. If not ill start one.

Counts and equal have been added to the notables of Pendor thread.

All orders hold only baron status in their aristocratic holdings

Retainers, mostly of Aelos's age and status.

Just curious. Does anyone else find the concept of courting a lady appealing? Not really sure how much we can do there, but if this is something you people would be interested in, we could at least discuss it.

Honestly, There's potential for huge political plots.. but it makes it all a lot more difficult. (for the Voices and Orders alike)

I was/am curious about the possibilities though.

I would deem it very, very unlikely that a noble lady (or her noble father) should consider an order knight an appropriate match. One would have to be extremely renowned and possess a sufficient noble estate (a baronetcy at least I think) of one's own, so nothing bestowed by the order because that cannot be inherited by possible children.
So, acquire a fief for your character, become sufficiently renowned and respected among the nobility, then it might work.

a fair point. But it could still be an option for Aranor. Perhaps Grandmasters would be considered more 'worthy' than a mere knight?

Edit: Ninja'd by my example.

A grandmaster would enjoy higher renown and respect, but his standing is tied to the order and thus he has nothing to pass on to his children. It is not even certain that the next grandmaster would remain friendly towards the family. Consider that marriage in those times was highly dynastical and candidates were measured by the inheritable power they would bring into the marriage.

As I've become to realise I'm not going to win this, I'll give in.
Though interesting, it's not actually possible for Order knights/Grandmasters.

Luckily I've just realised that the goals I wanted to achieve with courting, can also be achieved otherwise.

Well, no one will keep you from trying it and what I said above applies mostly to the daughters of the high lords. With sufficient renown and a certain wealth a baronet might be willing to marry his daughter to your character.

Or, a daughter might elope with a knight. It's happened before, but I suspect you'll take a massive hit to renown and prestige. It might make others view you more favorably.

But, would it be different with a Countess or Duchess? Because we could imagine that these are respectable women; and if they want to center their power, they might consider making a pact with an order through marriage; just enough to ensure their line will continue, and some of the Grandmasters aren't that old. Just a thought.

A widowed Countess or Duchess also has much more leeway for matters of the heart; their power and financial security are already established, and they don't need the approval of their fathers. An agreement would have to be made before any wedding, to clarify certain legal and political matters...
