Sir, the knight replied, the surgeon must first look after him. He must be alive if he is to be convicted by a court of justice. Let the Baronet decide what to do with him.

William got the message that the bandits and the sheriff had returned. He went outside until he saw Seph and a surgeon clustered together.
"I heard that your squire has been killed Seph. We'll make sure there is a consequence." Then he turned to the surgeon and said.
"Where is the sheriff and the bandits at the moment?"

"Thank you." William turned to the surgeon. "Get this man treatment he may be an enemy of Rebache, but he is still to be treated humanly. The bandits can stay in the dungeon, where they are."
William then turned back to Seph "Sir Hounds I want you to come with me to the dungeons in order to interrogate the bandits." He also turned to the 2 guards near him.
"Come with us in case the bandits try anything."

"Perhaps it would be better if you allowed me to deal with this, you my lord are a man of honour and it is likely they know this and know you will not execute them without trial.

I on the other hand am not, I will not kill them but I can convince them otherwise and get the information we need far faster then doing it your way.

"Try to find out where he hid his money if you would lord, I am going to need to find a new squire and it would help if I had funds for it."

Heading into the dungeons Seph had the bandits moved to a side room and chained to the wall before picking up a razor edged knife and approaching them.

"Only one of you will leave this room alive, which one of you it will be depends upon which one of you is smart enough to answer my questions honestly and quickly.

Now, where is your hideout and be very aware, if you lie to me I will know and you will regret it for the rest of your very long very painful life.
"

Then without a word Seph approached each bandit in turn and sliced off the thumb on the left hand.

"So. Who wants to live?"

Things certainly more interesting in Rebache, Squire Yorin had to admit to himself. The messenger at the gate had said something about a squire being killed and the sheriff being injured. He filed this away for later as he looked down at his letter for what seemed like the thousandth time as he sat in a well worn grove in the ground under his tree.

Jacob strolled over from his evening lesson with Sir Ealdred. He did limp a bit and had some bruises and his trousers were ripped from when the knight had sent him to the ground, but he seemed well acquained to that.

What exactly are you waiting for still? he asked.

I was given a task Jacob. And I don't intend to leave until this letter has been given to the head of the adventurer company. Yorin held up his letter in answer.

The adventure company? Jacob made big eyes. You mean that ugly guy with only half a jaw, his brutish sons and - he put on a conspirative smile - that angelic being?
He winked, but then got back to topic.
Didn't you notice they left for Yaragar early this morning? They must have ridden right past you.

It was quiet for a time, Yorin giving Jacob and then the townhouse behind him a look that suggested he wished they would both burst into flames.

No. It's hard to see someone ride past when you are alseep. They must have gone by very early, I woke up before the sun crested the trees.

With a sigh he hauled himself to his feet and untied his horse which pawed the ground impatiently, wanting to be ridden after many days of standing about.

Well, in any case thank you for telling me. If it was left up to your lord I would probably be here until Astrea returned to the world.

Mounting is horse the squire finally headed back towards Yaragar, hoping to never be ordered into Rebache again.

Light bandit started screaming "Okay i will tell you, there is one hideout *tells location of the hideout*"

Heavy took a deep breath "He is right, there is a hideout, but you sure you want to destroy Knights of the Lion? There will be others, not as forgiving as we are."

"I'm sure you have been attacking innocent people in these lands and it's time you paid for it.
As for these others well let them come, I can always use good target practice.

Now, your going to tell me how many of you there are in total, how many are mounted and what equipment you have.
What security your hideout has and where the sentries are.

Then if once it's done it turns out to have been true you may yet survive this, if however it is not.... well.
That would be unpleasant for you.

Seph then picks up a straight edged blade from the table and heating it in one of the torches until it glows red he holds it infront of the lighter bandits eye for a second then uses it to sear his thumb joint.

"Now talk quickly bandit or next time it will go in a far more unpleasant place and please try to be accurate, I'd hate for a misunderstanding to result in your death."

"How many of you are out at any one time?
So you have seen nobody standing guard over the entrance to the lair?

Describe the lair and it's surroundings to me.
"

Seph then places the blade back in the fire to heat up again.

"You have until the blade is glowing again."

Shrugging Seph picked up the blade again and with quick cut's removed both bandits remaining thumbs and their index fingers then burns them all to stop the bleeding.

"Are you sure thats all you know? I will be leaving orders that if I don't return you die, so if you areleaving something out now would be a good time, like a hidden entrance or secret exit incase your attacked so you can get away.

Shrugging Seph turns to go, I hope so for your sake, if it's not then this is a fraction of what will be done to you before your allowed to die.

So I ask one last time, are you leaving anything out?
Are you deceiving me in any way.
If you are... well... your a young man and your body is strong, you could live like this for years before you die.

Light bandit was screaming "That's all i know, i swear."

Heavy one was silent, he had a sad look on his face which showed that he didn't care what would happen to him at this point

" None, my mother died when I was young and my father shortly after I was Knighted. The closest I had to family was Kalam and you saw what the sheriff did to him."

"I ask because I have some respect for your loyalty. So do you?"
