As Nickolas prepared to depart, an uninvited group of Knights of Kelredan arrived. Nickolas merely glanced at them as he left. If anything was to happen, Ser Carax should still be around and the two squires will arrive momentarily, not to mention the guards stationed at their respective posts.

Nickolas returned to his quarters and went straight to sleep. He will be setting off on his own before daylight tomorrow.

However, before Nickolas could enter the realm of dreams, he remembered that Robert does not have any acknowledgement that his master will be searching for the mercenary company. He quickly scribbled a note before truly calling it a night.

The note read,

baras took the pouch and weighed it in his hand before withdrawing a few coins and handing them back to the knight

You were a few denars over. I will see to the equipment first thing in the morning I assure you. If you remove the bandits then I would view it as proof of your talents.

" I should warn you my lord, I sent men to meet with your fellow barons to seek additional recruits, this is a large area with a great deal of places to hide and so I judged it to be in my best interest to gather as large a force as is possible for the task, in addition every man they send to join me leaves them with 1 man less to bolster their own forces. Baras gave the knight a look that was hard to read.

Sir Amhain, I admire your foresight, though as I understand it you are trying to be hired by all the baronets at once?

His confusion was evident.

"Certainly not, I simply sent men to offer my services in ridding this land of the bandits, a goal which benefits all of us and to request funds or man power to assist with that goal.

I have no intention of joining the other barons.

Baras had turned and was walking back towards his seat and spoke as he did.

It would be a shame if you did show yourself to be dishonest and traitorous sir knight. I can make your life utter hell if you do end up betraying me. Your reputation as a knight will be besmirched and I shall see all trade on your lands wither and die.

Serve well and it is very likely that your lands will expand with your reputation of loyalty. Baras had turned his head to look over his shoulder, his grey eye hard, as opposed to the welcoming look it had been when they had reached an agreement.

" I will do what is required to see you to victory my lord, if I must ruin my own name to do so then that is a price I am willing to pay for the good of the generations of my family who shall come after me.

This I swear.

We shall see, in serving me I doubt a reason for having your name discredited will arise. You may go if you wish, I will have instructions for you in the morrow. I will make this promise now before you and witnesses, should I rise, you shall rise with me.

Baras had returned to his seat at the table Carax sat at by now, his guards moving to behind the chair.

[Robert Garrison, Squire of Nickolas Ballard]

Robert Garrison, Nickolas' squire, comes into the room with Thedric Baras and Ser Carax. The Knights of Kelredan have already departed.

"You called for me, milord?"

Yes, I did. Sir Carax wishes to speak to us all, you, myself and his squire. We are simply waiting for him.

Baras gestured at a seat. Please sit.

After a time Baras began to get impatient in waiting for the second squire, turning to Ser Carax he made it known.

What in the blasted hells is taking that squire so long?

Carax grimaced. "Something must've happened. He's never this late."

He opted to wait for a while longer before going to search for his squire. Just then he began to hear clattering from outside. Moments later Jon sprang through the doorway, wet all over and breathing hard.

"What in the seven hells?" Carax bellowed.

"I fell into a well. Someone pushed me over." Jon said, trying to breathe. A flush appeared on his face, and he began to stutter.

"The-- cook. Saved me."

Carax was about to shoot the next question at Jon, when he remembered that he had kept the others waiting.

"We'll talk later," he said, "but now that we are all present, I can finally say what I was about to."

He took a breath, eyed everyone gathered in the room.

"I will propose you a plan. I will send my wife, accompanied by Baras, to Kelredan Castle. In there, my wife will establish her little shop there, and start gathering people around her. Our people, and people that could possibly be ours. She'll buy them with food and possibly coin, and eventually we will have a large network of spies that will extend to everywhere in Kelredan Castle... and, best of all, none of them will know who they're working for. Why do we need Baras? Well, Baras is a large man, and an able one. Aside from protecting my wife, he will dedicate his time getting to know the other squires in Kelredan. I'm sure that he is familiar with how easily information can travel in taverns, where the drink lifts our tongues from their well-guarded secrets."

Finally, he smiled.

"That is my proposition."

Baras listened to what carax had to say before pausing for a moment to consider what had been suggested.

I like it, though it will take time to set things up, a few days at least, not more than a week at most. Yaragar already has a presence in Kelredan in the form of one of my landed knights, though increasing it will only help our position. However, if things get to be too dangerous I will bring your wife back here with or without her blessing for it. But why did you want him here for this? Baras pointed at Nickolas's squire.

He smiled. "I called him to escort me back to my chambers."

[Robert Garrison, Squire of Nickolas Ballard]

In response to Carax's statement, Robert replied,

"Of course. No doubt Ser Carax is extremely weary from his journey, and may wish to be lent a hand as he makes his way to his chambers. His squire seems like he needs some rest as well. I will look after both as they retire for the evening."

Once the meeting was over, Robert carries out the task assigned and checks on Nickolas Ballard, now asleep, but notices the note. Robert scans through it quickly before returning to his own quarters.

Over the next few days, Robert would be carrying out menial tasks or training, awaiting for further instructions from his master.

[OCC: Just stating that Robert basically did normal tasks for a squire or trained during the lapse of time.]

**Skip to current day, as other threads have been made to satisfy actions that have taken place elsewhere, Day 4 I think**

Baras sent a squire to request the presence of Carax's wife. He wanted to see for himself who he was going to be travelling to Kelredan with and see what business acumen she had if she was going to win the hearts and minds of the populace.

Baras also sent for Yagiz and Sir Nickolas as well, having something that he wanted the Sellsword and retainer knight to do.

Day 4: Early Afternoon

Nickolas Ballard arrives in response to the summons. He was still clad in his armor, greatsword sheathed on his back, and perspiration was evident as the result of his training. He wipes his brow before speaking.

"You requested for me, milord?"

Baras had his feet up on his desk and by the side of his chair something new was lying there. A large hound, colored dun red was snoring and drooling on the stone floor, the size of the dog made Nickolas wonder where it had been hiding all this time. Baras just talked over the noise.

I did. You and Yagiz are going on an "adventure."

Yagiz made his appearance just in time to hear the statement. His arms were cross but his hand went up enough to tug the curl of his mustache.

Oh now? Yagiz does so like adventures. Does your man need a brothel? Yagiz thinks he may need to loosen up a bit.

Grinning he shrugged.

"No I'll assume? Then it is work. Also good but not as great."

I'm sure you will not have a problem with this job. There is a good inn nearby that I'm sure will accomodate any requests you might have, be it wine or women.

Baras pointed at a map on his desk, a marker sitting on the Yaragar side of the bridge that was a short while away from the manor and village.

I am entrusting you two with the security of this bridge. Both to keep trade flowing and coin coming into my coffers, as well as to, how shall we say it, keep an eye on the comings and goings from Rebache and Belmonfaire and prevent any undesirables spilling into my lands. It is the fastest way to reach my lands other than going the overland route around the Great Lake. Yagiz, if you would be so kind as to split those Outriders you have in your band and send one across teh bridge to keep an eye on things and the other towards Mobray to be our eyes there.

Baras stopped for a moment and looked as if he was considering something.

I also might have something that should make your lives easier should anything happen by that bridge as well.

Ignoring Yagiz's comment, Nickolas was considering the plan when a thought came to mind.

"I assume that the bridge is public property, and is not owned by either Sarleon or Rebache? Last I remember, I believe the bridge itself and the land on the opposite side are of Rebache's, while our side of the river is just outside of Sarleon's influence. I do not wish our actions of being stationed near that bridge will be considered a breach of faith for the other baronetcies who are also desiring to take Kelredan, or even Sarleon for that matter. At least, unless that is what you are desiring to do.

As for the plan itself, I agree wholeheartedly. One must know thy enemy in order to combat it, and taking control of a vital chokepoint will work in our favor. However, how many men will be stationed there, and what is this 'something' you speak of?"

While speaking, Nickolas attempts to hide his other thoughts regarding his task. He was being regulated to guard duty. Even though it was an important task on an important landmark, it would still be a boring mission. Alas, for honor and to safeguard Yaragar, the knight had to take up the responsibility for being stationed at that bridge.

Yagiz made an insincere frowning face.

"Oh now that's not much if an adventure at all. And I won't even have Mara or Rana to keep me company."
