Happens right after the IC-Scene in Mobray Castle.

Carax eyed Ser Nickolas smilingly and took a sip of spiced wine from his cup.

"We're only two knights and their squires, but our support could still be decisive, if it ever came to battle... or otherwise. It depends on our own assets, motivation and courage. If we wanted to make them approach us, we could simply wait and watch... or, if we are feeling braver, we could declare immediately and try to get an upper hand for him. There are things that even free knights such as you and me can accomplish rather easily, especially with the baronets in such disorderly states..."

He allowed his words to sink in, taking another sip of the wine, and then wiping his mouth on his sleeve. Some of the wine had found its way into his beard.

Nickolas drank from his mug filled with plain ale as he listened to Ser Carax. As he finished, Nickolas gently placed his mug down and replied.

"While I may not have given my oath to Yaragar just yet, I somehow feel a small sense of loyalty to Thedric. Granted, he didn't make much of an impression on me during the court session, but the fact still remains. In addition, my squire tells me that Belmonfaire, currently under Laurence's leadership, has some history of a military. I could care less about his blood claim, yet that military might may prove useful in the possible struggle that lies ahead. Lastly, he reported that Rebache is essentially just a merchant village. However, those who have the funds can hire mercenaries and afford better equipment.

Of course, you probably knew all of this if you paid attention during the hearings. My mind was elsewhere..."

Nickolas took his mug and drank some more ale before coming back to his main point,

"My place is on the battlefield. I am no politician or commander. As far as I am concerned, I will follow the lead of the first person I happened to come across. That happens to be you or Thedric Baras, whichever will take me first. As long as he stands right, then I shall follow him, and shall depart when he goes wrong.

As for taking action, I am indifferent. If we start, I personally have nothing to lose. Robert will do fine here in Pendor, he'll adapt quickly.

If we wait, then I guess I have to find something to do to keep me occupied.

Your call, lad."

PostSubject: Re: IC-Scene: Inn at Mobray Castle (Continuous)   IC-Scene: Inn at Mobray Castle (Continuous) EmptyMon Feb 25, 2013 3:25 am

In another corner of the tavern four mailed figures jostled for space around a table with other drunken patrons. The shortest but indisputably widest was doing his best to scream down the rest of the patrons. "Blue seventeen you capricious slut! Merclan wants his salt!" Spit was gathering in the side of his mouth that lacked teeth, and his scarred face was flushed with blood in a sickening pattern. The snail wandered around the board covered with numbers and colours, its terrified eyes shrunken into its head. At the sudden shout as the little sand dial ran out a triumphant competitor slammed down with his hand, marking where the snail had ended up. Bellows of laughter rang out, and the euphoric man looked down to see he had moved the snails crushed body down a peg. Red three. Merclan stared at his sweetly smiling daughter Yirimir and grumblingly handed over several coins. As he sulked away she danced up to him: "It was a close one pop" she asked innocently.

"All right then you little shit give it a rest." He growled back. As he walked around the table he cuffed each of his sons on the back of the head and walked over to the bar top, and shouting down his sons in turn to pick up the food and drinks. Thumbing out each coin grudgingly to the serving wench. He moved over to Tower, his stoutest son and snatched a pitcher of beer from him, guzzling it down. The alcohol leaked out the right side of his mouth, dribbling down his chin, he seemed aware of this, as a serviette was hanging on the right side of his collar. Smacking his lips in satisfaction he strode of into the gloom with his brood trawling after him heading straight towards the only table with room left to sit down. The one shared by Sir Nickolas, Sir Carax and their squires.

As Merclan bore down on them his beady eyes beamed. "Hallo my good sirs! Mayhaps you could share a table with some fellow travel weary knights!" Without waiting for their response he crashed down onto the bench and his sons hurried into any space available, lowering down the food with care and immediately fighting over it. Ignoring his sons display, Merclan invites himself to the knights conversation. "Nasty business this dead blue blood, for the losers anyway. Still provides ample work for us honest soldiers of lady luck." As Merclan talks Sir Carax feels a slender figure slip down next to him. Looking to his side he notices the tall blonde goddess that is Merclans daughter smiling at him and toyingly murmuring: "Shove over shiny."

Merclan turned around and spat on the ground, plucking a cup of wine from a distracted serving girl. Turning back he grinned at the two knights with his prize, revealing the gaps on his right side where his teeth should have been. "HAH, the way that pompous git Malbert proclaimed it, you'd think he'd prefer if all three of these petty lords died, instead of just two." Merlcan proffered his hand to the knights: "Sir Forn Merclan, adventurer and businessman."

PostSubject: Re: IC-Scene: Inn at Mobray Castle (Continuous)   IC-Scene: Inn at Mobray Castle (Continuous) EmptyMon Feb 25, 2013 7:09 am

Carax looked up in surprise as another knight sat down on their table, accompanied by a variety of younger folks who apparently were his offsprings. Although the numbers were frightening enough on their own, he still found his gaze drawn to the old knight's face. Ugly and marred by blasted blood veins, it was a mockery of a face that could once have been fair to the eye. He stirred his wine with a wooden spoon, irritated, until an unknown blonde sat down next to him. Revulsion in his eyes, he said:

"I am a married man, my lady."

But she was beautiful, he gave her that. "I fear that my honour comes first..."

The revulsion in his eyes softened. "Though..."

His revulsion melted away like winter snows in spring, made an attempt to return, but turned up as a greedy glint in his eyes instead. He felt his manhood stir. How long had it been?

"Nevermind. Ser Forn Merclan, adventurer and businessman, hm?" he said, turning to the newcomer with the face, trying to keep his eyes off the blonde.

"With matters as they are, I wouldn't be surprised if they all died in one gigantic battle." He glanced at his wine. It seemed more delicious than before. He gulped it down, savouring its taste, while regarding the repulsive adventurer with a pair of grass-green eyes.

"The more people join one side, preferably in the same time, the more chances this side has to win. And I am sure that the winner would be most grateful to those who helped him."

He smiled.

"You seem to be an extremely productive man. Would you not join forces with us to increase your chances of success?"

Before adventurer could reply, voice was heard from corner of tavern "Talking about joining forces" man with dark beard, and scar on right side of his face walked up to the table, there was big brute following him.

"If you are a willing to cooperate" Sheriff of Mobray was speaking talking to all that were present "you may end up using my services for the right price, or in turn i may offer you some work to do for a generous coin.If we would form a small alliance here, we would certainly be an influential force, and this alliance would benefit us all, what do you say?"

Merclan nods sagely: "Aye, in such turbulent times honest folk such as us aught to band together. Why we were accousted by brigands on the way here weren't we Tower?" If Merclan could be described as a pig, his son Tower could be described as a primeval boar that hunted apes. Upon hearing his name he looked up from his chicken carcass and grinned at the sheriff, grease glistening around his mouth. "Yer, bandits, with fancy red capes and lion pictures, deys were terribly rude." The man pulled out his red serviette and wiped his mouth with it. "Is not safe at night with them folks about, they were kind enough to talk to us though." He launched into a stuttering laugh at his own joke. The smallest brother pulled out spectacles and a map, and laid it before the knights, it was annotated with neat cursive writing. The smallest brother still looked like a pig, but the proud kind that breeders take to competitions. He spoke soft and fluently: "Rebache is rich, Belmonfaire is strong and Yaragar will look to one of them for an alliance. Belmonfaire sits in the best position, able to attack both from a isolated place. The lord of Rebache is a chivilrous fool who pampers his serfs, Yaragar a glorified toll both owner, Belmonfaire is an old warrior, but also poor."

Merclans daughter Yirimir leans forward to interject, looking at the sheriff: "A fool, a banker and an ancient knight, all fighting over leavings. What do you plan to do about it kind sheriff?" she asks, favoring him with a sweet smile.

Olaf smiled back,a smile that he is so used to give to tavern wenches. Then he, found a place to sit, played with his beard a bit and finally answered "What i plan to do eh? I plan to do what i always did. I will make sure that commoners are not hurt, and will not try to profit from this situation in any way " Olaf started laughing, and immediatly afterwards, man who was standing behind him, laughed too, with stupid artificial lough. Then Olaf turned to Adventurer who mentioned bandits, and after placing hand on his shoulder said.

"Stick with me fella, and you won't have to worry dem bandits"

Entering the Inn at Mobray the archer looked around for a moment before nervously approaching Sir Forn and bowing before holding out a letter.

" I bring a message a message from my commander Sir Jared Hounds, Knight of Rebache. "

Note:

Leaning closer the archer then whispered.

"Between you and me, while these other nobles and knights talk and scheme amongst themselves my commander prepares us for battle and we would be honored to fight alongside warriors as great as you and your men."

Carax smiled to hide his confusion. Such a gathering the old adventurer had drawn!

"Aye, and I hope you beneficial dealings, Merclas." He turned his smile towards Olaf, who had just finished laughing to some corny joke of his.
its gratitude for the service you've made to the Kelredan County, Sheriff. Since you already know our names - I am Carax - should we also know yours. What is it, if I may be so blunt? I don't doubt that the right people would indeed be happy to pay you some for service... say, if you went where me and Ser Nickolas here went, you could get an even higher sum. More people always make for a finer show."

Merclan smiled at the archers words, and passed the note to his youngest son, who read it out loud to him. "Ah the plot thickens, me and my sweet children must brave the roads once more and see what the milord has to offer." He raises himself to his feet and bellows at his gorging sons, who stand too, carrying the food in their hands. Yirimir saunters off behind them, at just a slow enough rate to tease the rest of the seated table.

PostSubject: Re: IC-Scene: Inn at Mobray Castle (Continuous)   IC-Scene: Inn at Mobray Castle (Continuous) EmptyTue Feb 26, 2013 3:55 am

Day 1: Evening

In a whirlwind of events, Nickolas caught himself caught in an intensified situation as the tavern became a locale suited for those scheming over Kelderan. An Adventurer and his companions, possibly offspring, joined with Ser Carax and Nickolas as they discussed their plans for the conflict. Nickolas watched as the previously "clear" table became engulfed in spilled ale, scraps of bread, and other edible commodities.

Nickolas remained silent, attempting to disguise his disgust toward the uninvited guests as Carax casually entered into conversation. The prospect of having this band of merry men tagging along sounds good from a military standpoint, but Nickolas personally loathed if he had to fight alongside them. Of course, if they were opposite sides of the battle, it wouldn't matter, or perhaps the chaos of the battlefield will divert Nickolas' focus instead.

And then, another personality rose from among the masses. The Sheriff of Mobray made himself known, proposing his own alliance. Adventurer and Sheriff entered into conversation, and Nickolas started to despise this "Sheriff" as well. The simple line, "I will make sure that commoners are not hurt, and will not try to profit from this situation in any way" seemed like a half-lie. While he may protect the commoners, it would appear that nothing will stop the sheriff from taking what he desires.

To further the situation, an Archer from Rebanche came into the tavern and gave a letter to the Adventurer leader, Merclan. Afterwards, he departed, perhaps finding employment from Rebanche...
Carax continued his discussion with the Sheriff, but Nickolas had other plans...

* * *

Nickolas broke from his silence, "Forgive me, Ser Carax, and... Olaf, wasn't it? While it has been pleasant drinking with you and swapping stories, I am afraid I must take my leave. Perhaps I had a little too much to drink..."

Nickolas attempted to fake a form of drunkenness as he left, not even giving the two a chance to say departing words. However, as he stepped outside the inn, he realized that Ale typically does not send one into such a stupor. Robert Garrision, Nickolas' squire, was already prepared with the horses.

"Robert, we ride to Yaragar. "
"But sir,"
Robert replied, "We will be riding at night! There are bandits and other foul miscreants out there!"
"Doesn't matter. We had to sneak past the King's men before, we can function just fine with these common challenges."

As Nickolas mounted his steed, he launched off past the gates of Mobray castle. Robert soon followed after him.

[Nickolas leaves the Inn at Mobray, and his story continues at Yaragar.]
[OCC: The King's men refers to the kingdom where Nickolas once resided, not the King's men of Pendor.]

Olaf watched adventurers and of Knights stand up and go away, with slight smile he said, "As fast as they come, as fast as they go" the he replied to Carax "Olaf is my name, as you probably already know, and fella, i like the way you think. If what you say is true, and the coin is right, well the show we gonna put on is gonna be more fun then our nobles can handle." Olaf winked to Carax.

After Caraxe's words man who seemed to be from militia entered tavern, he headed towards Olaf, whispered something to his ear and gave him a note. After reading it Olaf smiled. He folded note, and threw it to fireplace. Then he replied to Carax.

"Oh but i already did. If you go there you can mention that possible friend made contact with you, i would like for my true identity to stay hidden for now tough." Olaf paused for a second seemingly, he was thinking, but soon he spoke again. "You see i don't want for a rumors, that i am supporting someone, to spread , it doesn't fit Sheriff you know. Also i am not sure of what intentions of our dear baronet are, supporting some warmongering, selfish baronet would hurt my reputation quite a bit."

Day 2: Around 2 PM

Olaf was feasting in tavern, when messenger walked up to him, and whispered "Rebache refused". Olaf stopped eating for a bit of time, and was deep in his toughts. "Fool" he said more to himself. Then Olaf turned to messenger "Deliver news to Lions, tell them that Rebache is open for business for one week, and make sure they mention that it is fault of their Lord. Also give them 20 Gold as encouragement, Ryn will give you the money." Then Olaf continued to eat.

When messenger arrived, Olaf was drinking wine with 2 tavern wenches by his sides, he lazely picked up the latter and started to reading to, drinking more wine in the process..
and suddenly spiting it out.
"What the f***?!" One of wenches released a short scream when wine was spited on her, but Olaf didn't care, he read trough latter one more time, this time more carefully. Then stood up and said to Ryn "We are leaving, find my wardens, they are going with us" with those words Olaf left the tavern to prepare for they journey. Tavern keeper's "You forgot to pay" was answered with "Better shut up or i will remember you forgot to pay" from Olaf just before he left tavern.

Day 3, Early Afternoon

Nickolas finally arrives at the Mobray Inn. He makes straight for the tavern keeper, and inquires, "Pardon me sir, do you happen to know anything of a mercenary company in the area?"

As an aside, Nickolas also requested a mug of ale, the cost of which is insignificant.

The innkeeper took to filling him a mug of ale as he spoke.

"Aye I suppose there's that Yagiz fellow I have drinking in my backroom with his men. He showed up a few days past inquiring about the local lord. Since then he's been holed up back there and staying out of sight for my regular customers. Strange fella of D'Shar descent. Dunno much about him but he seems to think highly of himself. Feel free to head back there if you want."

He place the mug in front of Sir Nickolas and looked a bit expectantly at him.

"Ah, thank you. I suppose I'll pay him a visit then."

Nickolas takes the mug of ale and leaves some copper behind for compensation before heading into the backroom.

* * *

When he arrives, Nickolas opts not to join the group at the table and instead settles himself on a wall near the doorway. As Nickolas is alone during this operation, he has no backup if somehow negotiations go terribly wrong. Being armed only does so much for one weary knight.

Addressing the leader, Nickolas said, "Greetings from Yaragar, good sir. I hear that your band of mercenaries are in need of employment, and my liege is currently looking for allies to his cause. He is a man of business, and will be able to compensate you and your men well for the assistance."

Nickolas then drank from his mug, but taking care not to let down his guard.

Yagiz was certainly a sight to behold. He sat on a cushioned bench with olive skin slick black hair and a curled mustache in his goatee. He constantly grinned and pulled at said curly mustache while occasionally resting his hand on the hilt of his curved blade. He had two women sitting next to him. One playing a game with a knife by stabbing near her own fingers and the other wrapped around his shoulders. Various other mercenaries stood around the room of varying background but none stood out to well.

"Ah you look for a Sir? I'm afraid I am no Sir. Unless you mean a man. I am just so in that case. Just a humble mercenary really! Yagiz the Third, legendary Blade in the Dusk at your service."

He gave a kurt bow in his seat shrugging off the women next to him.

"It is good to know your man is a man of business. I am a businessman as well. One who rather enjoys his profits at that. But do I think that he is the man worth working for? There are many with gold after all and sometimes it's hard to hear with the clattering of coins."

"What is your mans offering I am wondering? I am a generous man but my women Mara and Rana are much more shrewd."

He perked his eyebrow still tugging at his mustache.[i]

After Yagiz's statement, Nickolas quickly realized that he had no information regarding Yaragar's treasury. He hoped that the price negotiated, if any, would be able to be paid for...

"While he did not directly made an offer, I am shall act in his name. I believe he will be willing to hire you for 1500 gold, and he will pay for accommodations, such as lodging, food, and drink. In addition, I also believe you have the right to keep any loot you manage to obtain.

Should things go in his favor, my liege may feel generous and may give extra funds on top of the initial amount paid for your services. He has a reputation of rewarding those who support him."

Deep down, Nickolas had a feeling that 1500 gold would not be enough. He remembered that 2000 gold seems to be baseline for hiring such men, but perhaps Nickolas may be able to haggle a better deal for his liege lord. The knight prayed that the "bonus" funding may be enough to sway the mercenary leader over the low hiring price.

He furrowed his eyebrows and reclined back in his chair. Once more he pulled at his mustache before speaking.

"These coins you speak of with not clatter as Yagiz would like. The song will not be as sweet as Yagiz does fear. Lodging is nice, but often men do not hire mercenaries to sleep in their beds and cozy homes. Loot is nice but would this band fight the loot worthy? Gold always sings sweeter than words Yagiz says"

He paused for a moment with a glazed over look. Still wearing his goofy grin.

"But you say your man does not make me an offer himself either? Yagiz would hate to ride that way to find a poor song of gold and steel. Rana in particular hates to waste travel. This would not make her happy and thus would make Yagiz unhappy. Yagiz is sure you understand for your own women."

At that Mara guffawed receiving an icy glare from Rana. Ignoring it he continued.

"Surely you may make a man a better word. Or even a song? yagiz has quite the comfortable cushion and wouldn't wish to part with it without incentive."

As expected, the Mercenary did not take the offer. Nickolas could continue his haggling attempts, or...

"Hmm, I expected a counter-offer from the mighty Yagiz. No matter, perhaps this deal may prove more to your liking, but it involves travel.

Even though I am but a humble knight, I am willing to pay you 50 gold, right now, if you and your companions follow me to Yaragar. Once negotiations are completed there, no matter if you are hired or not I shall give you an additional 50 gold.

Essentially, give me about two days worth of your time, and you and your men come out with 100 more gold without much effort. I am sure my liege is much more generous than I when it comes down to the 'clattering of coins', and he may give you the amount of gold you desire for your services."

Nickolas knew this was a risky maneuver. He will be losing his small amount of gold either way, just for a chance to obtain this mercenary ally. For all he knew the mercenary would simply take the money and be on his way.

If this failed, Nickolas had one last plan before he gave up on his attempt to obtain this ally.
