PostSubject: IC-Scene: The Study of Sir Thedric Baras (Day 2)   Wed Feb 27, 2013 8:36 am

Action begins after the discussion with Nickolas and Marcus, as such I will not allude to anything said in that storyline until after it is completed.

Now that meeting with the Free knights had been done, Sir Baras retired to is study. Lighting a tallow candle, he sat at his desk and began what was sure to be an arduous process of scribing. But before he did he called for a page and told him to tell the armorer of the manor to ready his heraldric plate and mail and weapon, two things that had not seen much action except in the bandit clearing expedition 5 months ago.

Afterwards, he pulled parchment and ink to him and began to write, the sound of a scratching quill filled the chamber as he first wrote and then made copies of a letter to be sent to the various merchants in Yaragar, Sarleon, and the other Baronectys.

The notes all read:

Spoiler:

After a time Baras sat back, sighing as he looked at the stack of letters. He was going to need more wax to seal them.

[Result: 1d100 % x 500 gold, i.e. expectation value of 250 gold which I deem fair considering Thedric's background and him being consequently roleplayed as a business man. Roll: 70 --> 350 gold]

Some time after the letters had been sent out the replies arrived at Yaragar. Some messengers just brought empty letters containing little but their masters' best wishes, but most replies were accompanied by purses of varying size. A rich merchant contact from Sarleon even sent a little chest containing 100 gold coins together with a letter that he hoped it would serve to improve the mercantile opportunities in the entire barony.

When the last expected reply had arrived Thedric's treasurer approached him, barely able to hide a smile below a mask of professionalism:
Milord, the total donations amount to 350 denars.

Baras looked up from his ledgers and notes, giving the man a tight lipped grin.

Excellent, that is more than I had hoped. Did any of the merchants respond to the other..... "suggestion" I had placed in each note?

I'm afraid no, Milord, the treasurer replied. The merchants seem to prefer to stay out of any possible fighting as it seems.

[Gave you a 10% chance that any merchants would be willing to further involve themselves in the conflict. The roll was a five out of 10.]

Baras nodded in understanding, he might have set his hopes a bit too high in that regard. He waved his hand by way of dismissal for the man.

Very well, take the donations and place them in the treasury.

After addressing the treasurer, Baras had turned back to the document he had just written. A long piece of parchment laying out in precise detail the contract that he had created with the Knight from Kelredan.

A brief summary of the contract were the details that had been discussed in the Main Hall, in addition to the necessary legal details written in baras's precise hand at the bottom, just above the lines for the signatures.

Baras's signature was already on the paper as was his seal.

Baras sent the contract for amhains services to kelredan with the sqquire yorin on one of tne faster horses in his stable. Inwardly, yorin died a bit inside as he remembered his last assignment as a courier when his lord gave him his task. He left without complaint however, the horse speeding him towards the amhain estate.

After his negotiations with Yagiz and the sudden departure of Merclan from his estates, Baras set about in the management of his holdings. His people would be busy the next few days, as he ordered the acquisition of long wooden poles and scrap metal from the manse and village. The metal was sent to the village blacksmith for an unknown reason with some expicit instructions as to what was to be done with it, though it was low quality metal, unfit for weapons or armor to say the least. Baras' militia took the wood into the manse and stored it near the stables.

Afterwards he penned a letter and sent it on its way towards Mobray.

Baras had also ordered the acquisition of several large containers of lamp oil from the store yard, Having it delivered to the manse and stored in a secure, dry, location.

He also sent someone to find Yagiz and give him a request to come to his study once again.
