Heinrich was silent for a moment, then a knock on the door interrupted his reprieve, snapping him back to attention.

"Enter," he said, waiting to see who would come in. Suddenly, a wide smile formed on his face, and he stood up, a young woman at the door.

"Marowen! It's a surprise to see you here." He stood up and hobbled his way over, embracing her in a hug. It seemed that Heinrich was hiding an injury, in which the hobbling made all too clear. His face seemed to light up with joy, and Heinrich seemed almost human again.

Marowen smiled. "I was just coming to see what you were doing," she said in a quiet voice. "Who's this?" she said.

Heinrich tutted. "This is Lord Stackford." He whispered something into her ear and her eyes widened. She curtsied and said "Pleased to meet you, sir." She went to the corner and pulled out a chair from the side of the room and sat down. This chair seemed to be prepared specifically for her; it looked actually comfortable. She seemed content to simply sit there, and Heinrich remained standing where he was.

Addressing Stackford, he said, "You've proved your honor by coming here to talk to me and guaranteeing my estate. I only hope that my trust and risk in you is rewarded. If you truly can guarantee my family, then I see no reason to not pledge for you. I will take the 500 denars as an investment, and I thank you for your gift."

Heinrich hesitated for a second and continued on.

"I only have another, more personal request. Would you shelter my family in your own estate? With my leaving to serve you, I would rather they be in a protected, safe home than one I that isn't."

He walked over to his desk and unsheathed his sword, and bent a knee, offering his sword up.

"Either way, I will still serve you and pledge to you, Lord Stackford."

Sir Laurence took the sword.

"Thankyou, my friend. I accept your service."

He took the sheath from the table and placed the sword back inside it, putting it on the table again.

"Of course, your family are welcome at my estate. Before we leave, I'll give you a letter for my steward, Wilhelm, instructing him to withdraw the money from the treasury and give it to you - although I expect to arrive with you, I may be delayed dealing with some other business in Kelredan on the way. He may also have some contacts in Sarleon, if you don't know whose business to invest in."

Sir Laurence paused briefly.

"Oh, one other thing. What do you think of the Iobairts? I have seen nothing to make me trust them, but how can a man learn to be trustworthy if none will offer him trust?"

Heinrich nodded.

"Ach, I'll be visiting the Iobairts soon enough. I know their father; he was a strong, if not harsh man. I've heard rumors about him, but then again, everyone starts rumors. I don't know about his sons, but they seem like right children to me. I would be cautious, lord. I pledged because I felt the need; I know nothing about them."

He turned and went over to Marowen, with a smile on his face.

"I'll be gone for a while, dear, but you can stay at the lords estate until this crisis settles down. Tell your brothers to gather the levies and be ready."

Marowen pouted. "I don't want to leave, father. I'd much rather stay here."

Heinrich shook his head sternly. "No. I need to make sure you are safe; once we finish this nasty business we can see about you being wed. And I would rather you do it unharmed, my dear."

Lowering his voice, he said, "Lord Stackford is an honorable man. He will take care of you, and I've heard his estate is grand. Understand, I need you to do this. For me."

Marowen sighed. She smiled, then said "Fine." With a twirl of her dress, she turned and left the room.

Heinrich turned and strapped on his sword. "I must ride to the Iobairt estate, Lord. I need to see what the other knights of Kelredan are doing."

"Indeed. So, let us ride together once you are ready."

Sir Laurence stood, stretching for his aches, and began making ready for the ride out.

Day 3, Late Afternoon

Having pushed the men hard all day Amhain arrived back at his family estate somewhat earlier then he had hope, leading his horse to the stables he watched his men march past the regulars still marching in perfect step having been run into the ground this way many times before.
The new militia staggering in behind the regulars looking as if they are about to collapse.

Having fed and rubbed down his horse Amhain then marched into the estate the door being opened by his mother.

Amhain and Ceann both greeted her respectfully before Folar pushed past them sweeping her up into a hug that made her look like a doll compared to his heavily armored bulk.

Entering the dining hall in her company they promptly sat down to eat while Nios ( the mother ) explained to Amhain that the baronet had left that morning.
Amhain upon hearing this promptly slammed a fist into the table before mastering his anger.

Heinrich nodded.

"Come, let us ride."

He left with Lord Stackford, headed for the Iobiart estate.

(OOC: Tonedyr, you can just say when we arrive.)

Day 3: Fading Light (Early evening)

Sir Laurence rode up to the Iobairt estate, Sir Heinrich beside him and his entourage behind them. This time, they were seen well before reaching the doors of the manor, and did not need to knock.

A few moments later an extremely large and well armored Knight appeared carrying a broad double bladed axe over one shoulder as if it weighed nothing.

Without a word he motioned for a guard to approach and moments later the guard bowed.

"If you would kindly follow Sir Ceann he will escort you to Sir Amhain, your men may come with me and I will escort them to lodging for the knight and have meals sent to them, with my lord home the estate is somewhat more crowded and the space left within the main house is somewhat more limited then upon your last visit."

Nodding his head towards the guard Ceann then turned and began walking back into the building motioning for you to follow.

(( Somebody please remind me to kick Mesor I even reminded him to log in my account this time and he still forgot. ))

Sir Laurence responded as the guard turned.

"Well, I do not expect to stay the night again."

Affronted to see the guard walking away, he continued regardless;

"Even an hour may prove pivotal in these times, so we will be leaving once our negotiations are done."

Sir Laurence turned to Sir Heinrich, seeing if he had any comment.

Heinrich nodded, shifting his weight from one foot to another.

"Aye, we have little time. We need to move swiftly and decisively. Yet, I see no harm in sharing a drink or two with these men. You may not know the true character of a man until he's had a few drinks. A wise word my mother used to tell me."

Heinrich's remaining eye softened a bit, then his cold, impassive glare returned.

Reaching the door Ceann turned back.

"Are you coming? My brother is not a patient man at the best of times and we have got work to do once this meeting is complete."

Day 3: Evening at the Iobairt estate

Sir Laurence turned back, waving to his household knights to wait there as he and Sir Heinrich went into the hall.

Standing from his seat when they enter Amhain bowed respectfully to the baronet careful to keep the look of distaste from his face before offering his hand to Sir Heinrich.

"Welcome to my estate my friend, I did not know you would be coming else I would of had a feast prepared.
It has been a long time since we have had the honor of hosting any of your family.
So what brings you here on this rather dismal night?

Heinrich gripped Amhain's hand firmly, smiling as memories of the boy came flooding back.

"Aye, it has been a long time. I remember when you were a wee boy, but now you've grown up into a respectable knight. It's funny how time changes things."

Heinrich stood respectfully to one side and gestured at Stackford.

"I'll let Lord Stackford explain."

"That is acceptable, I will be leaving soon to deal with the bandit problem that has been causing problems in the area but I always have time to spare for old friends.
Perhaps you would be interested in joining me?

Sir Laurence stepped past Sir Heinrich, closer to Sir Amhain.

"Well, perhaps, though matters in my lands require my attention. It would be good to have a chance to ride with you, as I did with your father before the war. To get to the reason for my visit: your support would be greatly valued in the struggle for the succession of Kelredan. I have heard praise of your fighting skills, though I have not seen you fight - no doubt you are more than a match for the words I have heard."

Sir Laurence stopped, and let a moment of silence fill the air.

"I have recently made a deal with the baronet of Yaragar. But my first priority is the good of my people. If you can convince me it is best for my people to support you and make me a fair offer then I will support you, I have not put my oath in writing yet.

"Ah, I understand - we all must make our choices. I must admit my disappointment though, that you have chosen to stand with a lord who lives so far away that he would be decidedly late in dealing with, say, a D'Shar raid. And the more so since he is not known for his courage. Oh, I'm sure he has many admirable qualities for administration, always important for any estate, and we live in peaceful times. Nonetheless, you have not made the safest of choices for the people of Kelredan - or for your own warriors if this matter comes to the field of battle."

"When and if this comes to the field of battle you will find my warriors are more then capable of defending themselves.

But I would be happy to assist you where I can for a fair price if you have need of me, would you be interested in aiding me in dealing with the bandit threat?
I'm hopeful I will have information on them shortly and would welcome some of your men to join me for the battle to follow, you would of course recieve a fair portion of the loot decided by the size of the force you can send to aid me.

"Hmm... We may be able to work together on the bandits, but my men would have to be led by one of my sworn vassals. If you send a messenger to my estate when you have located the bandit camp, I shall see who I can spare."

"Certainly you would have command of the expedition, but it would not be prudent for me to entrust an ally of my enemy with some of my soldiers, without a man of initiative to ensure nothing untoward occurs. I would expect much the same if I were to receive support dealing with the Vanskerry from one of the other baronets, even before the succession dispute arose."

"Indeed, I shall look forward to hearing from you."

Sir Laurence shifted awkwardly.

"Well, it's late, and I should get back home to deal with any urgent business. Unless there are other matters we must discuss?"
