Since I oculd tell that the conversation regarding CKII could go on for ages, I decided to give it its own thread. Perhaps later to be used as a general "Game thread.

Anyway, continuing from where I left off at, when England wants something, it marches a 30,000 man army there and takes it.

Spoiler:

Given to the Knights of St. John for their service in the war.

Probably a good idea.

I nearly screwed everything up as Scotland. I pressed a claim on the Norwegian county in the north-east, and had just occupied it when the entire norwegian army decided to land there. England then took advantage of a slowdown in William's invasion to try and take my southern provinces, and I thought I was screwed.

Then, the Normans started up again, all of the English troops sprinted back down to defend essex, leaving me open to defeat the Norwegians and turn around to take a few English provinces. Peace was declared, and nobody gained anything Very Happy

Pulled out of an economic slump, finally managed to get a few male heirs, and stopped 3 vassal rebellions all in a couple of years (with the help of a few mercenaries). Now I control half of north Spain, and I need to wait a bit until my truce wears off with Arab-Barcelona so I can press my claims there.

Only game I played similar to this was Medieval Total War II (Stainless Steel, Westeros, and TATW are THE best mods in my opinion) , and although I loved total war, CK II has got me hooked.

I've gotten more land through assassination than war as Ireland. Marry a son to a daughter and assassinate any heirs in the way. Good stuff.

The few times I've tried that, I get discovered. It was a 14 percent chance of discovery versus a 40 percent chance of success, and they managed to screw it up somehow.

Holy Orders= The best. If I didn't have them, I would be screwed against Arab Spain.

The Duchess of Navarra rebelled when I tried to imprison her was a 70% chance of success, and I had to execute her in prison after I won, lest she take my power away. I released a few prisoners to make up for the opinion loss.

I haven't tried a game as an independent duke/count yet, is it fun?

I've tried a few games as an independent. While very fun in the original CK, I haven't figured out how not to be absolutely crushed in the first couple of years, either by Muslims or nearby Christians.

It's something I'll work on more in one of my future games. Extremely difficult as of now.

I breed my children to lead troops and for intrigue. Then I find Courtiers with high intrigue and get them into my court, unless they have envious or ambitious traits. Then I have my character marry someone with high intrigue.
My latest King has 12 intrigue, a wife with 20 and a spymaster with 23. They're good at killing people.

Also, having your spymaster "Build Spy Ring" in a county owned by another person gives you a boosted chance to assassinate them.

Taking out their wife and spymaster first will make it easier.

Thank you for the tips, I didn't know that :O Time to go on an assassination spree!

@DrSane Graphics-wise it isn't that hard to play, I'm running it using an alright laptop. There are some slight frame-rate issues, but they aren't important when you're taking over whatever you want Laughing

I always played as the Count of Arborrea (Alborrea?) in CK, and forged my empire from there. I think in my most successful one I had all of Ireland, northern Spain, and parts of Italy within 4 generations.

Just started a new game!

Count Morvan of Leon (Brittany)

I have 2 vassals, a bishop and a mayor.

My liege is the duke of Brittany.

I've already secured an marriage with my character to the welsh bloodline,

Working on sowing dissent in a neighboring county for a future takeover.

Deffinately not as steep as Dwarf Fortress. Take it from someone who likes both.

- And I was one of the Alpha/Beta testers for it. An alright game, fun certainly, but MMO games have never been my thing.

Yer MMO's are like cocaine, enjoyable at the time but looking back on it an atrocious waste of time and resources. WOW's practically ice.

On world 2 I was a hero, fighting for Ireland's unification. But my house gave in to the enemy.

The game itself is pretty fun, but the thing that pulls you in is the people.

ugh, William just dragged me into a war to defend his throne against a plotter. What I didn't realise is that the plotter is allied to pretty much all of the North of England, and William only called me in after all his armies were wiped out.
