So let me get this straight do you want me to scout or what do you want me to do? Im confused.

Pretty much your sticking with wolf, but some of your riders are spread out tp watch out for anything.

Now just as a genaral question what aspect of events does the gamemaster control and what can the player have some control over, if at any.

You control your character's actions and the NPCs he commands, unless his orders are overridden by a higher ranking knight. All surroundings, other NPCs and outcomes of actions whatsoever are (unfortunately, I might say, since it's a hell lot of work) the gamemaster's domain.

But the player can control their own actions?

What you do is your decision, though whether it works as intended is up to me. ("I try to stab him with my sword" is fine, "I stab him with my sword and he falls dead" not.)

Mounted Melee stat; they do more damage when on horseback.

You can consider them being overcome very quickly.
