"At any rate should I find the time I would gladly give your camp a visit in the future, thank you for the offer. It behooves me as a servant of the King and a commander of Knights to know and experience as many martial styles possible. Given the Kings work with your order in the past it would do me honor. A good bit of fighting is always an excellent way to have fun as well."

Sir Kamos gave a slight nod and leaned back in his chair watching a torch in the hall dance about while waiting for the Duke to speak.

The audience hall slowly fills as more and more noblemen and knights from the Valorshield Marches enter. Those of you well taught in the arts of heraldry recognize various coat of arms, prestigious ones as well as those of relatively low renown. It seems the incident has rattled the cages of the majority of the local aristocracy. Many of the faces are filled with concern or suppressed anger and the constant muttering that fills the air and echoes from the cold stone reflects these emotions perfectly.

But all conversations cease immediately upon the arrival of one specific person. Clad in white silk garments matching the colour of freshly fallen snow, the ominous merchant known as Quigfen enters the chamber, escorted by two now unarmed Silvermist Rangers. With all eyes resting on him, Quigfen respectfully nods three times to the surrounding crowd, one nod visibly aimed at Caranthir and his brethren. Those who have encountered the merchant before find that there is no sign of his usually so cheerful smile; instead his expression is stern, maybe even troubled.

His eyes roam around, taking in every detail until they spot the lonely Knight of the Ebony Gauntlet, sitting beside the personal guard of the king. There they linger for the fraction of a second before they move on – a minor gesture not even perceivable for all but the most attentive observers – but for those who do notice it, it speaks volumes: Quigfen is not thrilled about the Gauntlet's presence.

Surprisingly, Quigfen does not seek the company of the rest of the Silvermist Rangers. Instead, he keeps to himself and chooses an empty spot near the line of chairs that has been reserved for duke Alamar and his family.

Mat got up, hurrying towards the door. He returns soon, looking suitably refreshed and with a slight smile on his face. "Wait till they get a look at this one, heh. It'll surprise them..." he mutters, going back to the seat.

After Quigfen's arrival, it does not take long before the duke himself makes his entrance. Steward Barrigan calls for silence, as the door leading to the family's private quarters flies open.

“Milords, Miladies, honoured knights and noble friends! It is my privilege to give you your hosts for this evening:

His Grace, the Duke of Laria and his wife, the Duchess!”

Thus, Duke Alamar enters, already escorted by Knights of the Griffin, leading his gentle wife by the hand. He is clad in full armour, a blue surcoat showing his personal heraldry covering the breastplate that once proudly showed the red lion of the Kingdom of Sarleon. The green sash of the Clarion Call, passing from the shoulder to the hip, is slung around is body. Despite the recent events, his expression is filled with vigour, joy and determination. His dark eyes, however, are dull and you cannot help but wonder what truth might hide behind these gates to the duke's soul.

In contrast to this, Duchess Anna seems to radiate grace and happiness. An endearing smile ornaments her kind features. Her eyes sparkle, searching those of the guests without any hesitation or shyness. She wears a breathtaking, blue dress, embroidered with golden fleur-de-lys.

They sit down together. The Steward continues.

“Their eldest son, his Lordship, the marquis of Valorshield.”

Lord Fouchier seats himself on the last chair, right of his father. As Alamar he wears his full plate, but again the Lion of Sarleon had been removed. His long, reddish mane gives him a wild and feral appearance. Lord Fouchier makes no fuss about his displeasement with the situation. His expression is broody, his looks piercing and derogative, no matter whom they meet.

“Their second son, Lord Quentin Monash,”
shouts Barrigan with a strong voice, but doubt mingles into it and he hesitates for a moment. “Ny...former Knight Commander of the Clarion Call!”

Quentin Monash smiles for forgivingly at Barrigan as he enters. He is young, still in his twenties and the only male member of the family not appearing in armour this day. Instead, his attire resembles that of a huntsman, though of the noblest kind. A green tunic of the finest wool is accompanied by buckskin breeches, bracers and ankle high cavalry boots. He bows respectfully and stands beside his brother. Frequently, his eyes travel towards Caranthir and the rest of the Silvermist Rangers, unable to hide his interest and curiosity.

“And finally, their only daughter; Lady Neldar Monash.”

As the duke's daughter enters, A murmur of excitement rippled through the crowd. Lady Neldar is truly a sight to behold. Like her younger brother, she has decided on a green garment, ornamented with golden vines. Her golden hair is hidden beneath a bonnet that does a good job in framing her angelic face. Her bright blue eyes are cast down and only the shyest of smiles adorns her lips. She positions herself dutifully behind her mother.

Once all have settled down, Duke Alamar opens his arms.

“Welcome my friends. I thank you all for coming. Seldom, Deloria Castle has been filled with nobler men. Many of you are old comrades, frequent guests within these halls, but today we also welcome new allies in this honoured assembly.”

He turns to the grandmaster of the Griffons.

“His grace, Duke Darlion of Sarleon; you honour me greatly by appearing in person today, when I am sure you have more than enough business back in the capital. You are a noble man, descending from a proud line and thus I welcome you proudly as my equal. Let my home be your home for as long as your duty will keep you from enjoying your own. We all have already witnessed your devotion to the king's command and, rest assured, you and your knights are more than appreciated already.”

The duke makes a small pause, then turns to Caranthir.

“But there is another knight that I am sure all of us born in the marches are eager to meet. I know, many of you are sad to see the Clarion Call fade away. I feel your pain, for the Call has not only been our stalwart defender, but has become an integral part of our customs and traditions. Yet, the king's wish is our command, for we all know the value of loyalty. And as in marriage, when we talk not about loosing a daughter, but about gaining a son instead, I say we have not lost what the Clarion Call means to us, but gained the privilege of seeing it become more under the guidance of the Silvermist Rangers. Sir Caranthir, one of our own, Grandmaster of the Silvermist, also known as the righteous ranger; I welcome you and your order to your new home in Laria. I hope you will find it to your liking. I look forward to seeing this new order blossom under your leadership.”

After falling silent and searching the crowd for a while, the duke finally also spots the single Knight of the Ebony Gauntlet.

“I bid you welcome as well, good sir. The Gauntlet's deeds in Veccavia have our respect and I regret your Grandmaster's punishment, as justly as it was ordered by His Majesty, the king. That you have lost one of your own in my very city troubles me dearly. Please accept my apology for this.”

At last the duke lowers his arms. A shadow rushes over his features.

“Now, as to why you all are here. I am sure the rumours have reached far, but as you can see, me and my family are alive and well, thanks to the efforts of my guard. It is true that they were all killed by arrows usually only found among the Noldor and the skill of the assassins with their bows indeed was great, yet we do not know who is responsible for this attack, as the attackers managed to escape unrecognised. Thusly anybody who takes action against our allies at this point will still be accused of breaking the king's peace and dealt with accordingly. I will not tolerate any action against the Noldor, as long as there is no undeniable truth that this attack was instigated by them. That is not to say that we will do nothing on this matter. We will take precautions; we will investigate - and it is for this noble assembly to decide, how we will proceed from here on. Anyone who has anything to say on this matter, may raise his hand and, if chosen by me, speak his mind.”

With that Alamar leans back and waits for the first man to raise his hand. Most of the gathered nobles exchange puzzled and unsure looks. Others look to the representatives of the knight orders, obviously waiting for them to voice their thoughts first.

Iskar and Caranthir exchange a brief look, then Caranthir nods and Iskar raises his hand. Given permission to speak, Iskar rises from his seat and while beginning to speak goes to the centre of the semi-circle formed by the council chairs in front of the duke.

Serene Highnesses, revered ambassador of the Noldor, nobles, knights and rangers!
If I may be so bold as to speak up as the first in this council, I would like to point out that during all the years in our order I have had many an opportunity to see how the Noldor, our king's allies, fight. And there is one thing I know for sure: If it had been them to intend the death of your Serene Highness, Duke Alamar, even your personal guards would not have been able to fight them off, nor would they have been so imprudent as to use their own well known and easily identified arrows for the assault.

It is very likely that the true assassins, knowing of the still present prejudices among the populace, used these arrows to distract the investigations to come from their trace. Yet this might prove to be their first mistake!
Noldor arrows are still very rarely used among humans and not easy to come by. His excellency, Quigfen, is the only person who sells these arrows officially and he sells them only to those who have proven themselves friends of the Noldor. The only other source may be the black market. With the help of your excellency, Quigfen, and by an investigation of Laria's underworld we should therefore quickly reveal where these arrows came from and thus track down the assailants.

Iskar bows an sits down again.

[OOC: Caranthir gave permission to use his character.]

"And how do we know that these arrows were even sold in the underworlds of these cities? Indeed, we must think of a more straightforward solution to this madness, as investigating this situation in secret may take to long. If these assassins were really Noldor, then the next time they chose to strike, the Duke may be dead in his sleep. The ability of Darlions men is prodigious, but even they cannot stop the Noldor. Some may say that it wasn't the Noldor, but what proof do we have? I do not want to chance the Duke's life on the claims of Noldor lap-dogs!"

Pausing to take a breath, I continue. "I say that we take this directly to the elves. As noble men, we deserve to ask who and what we want, not grovel in the darkness and try to figure this out from the sidelines, in fear of angering the tree-rats!"

"Let Iskar and his men try to do their search, while the rest of us send a delegation to the elves asking them on what they think of this..."

I see your point, Sir knight, though you do not seem to have listened properly to what I said, as I included the help of Quigfen as a necessary part of the investigation. Moreover I did not think of shady operations in the underworld, but of straightforward questionings of the leading figures. When confronted with the town watch and the Silvermist rangers and perhaps four angry knights of the Ebony Gauntlet these people might well consider giving us the information required.

Concerning your wonderful plans of seeking out the Noldor directly without any Silvermist rangers even accompanying you, well, good luck finding their fortress. Anyway, the Noldor hold an independent kingdom and the way to approach other kingdoms is by speaking to their ambassador: I therefore suggest you have a talk with his excellency Quigfen first before startling the squirrels in the woods by vainly searching for Elacrai.
If you consent, that is, your excellency, he added, turning to Quigfen.

He turned back to Mat:

If I may voice a perhaps unusual counter suggestions: The ...assertiveness of your knights combined with the connections and scouting abilities of our rangers should yield results in this investigation very soon. If you feel up to the task of suppressing your prejudices and personal hatred in service of Duke Alamar and the king, I and my squad stand ready to investigate this matter, including the death of Sir Robert Morbren, together with you and your men.

"May I also point out a something in your plan? The Noldor are neutral, not the King's allies. The only times they have fought for him was as mercenaries, for exorbitant fees. They may not shoot him on site, unlike many other nobles, but he is an asset to them, and nothing more..." I paused, thinking out my next words.

"I see that Quigfen has not settled near his friends in this court. Do you care to explain, Quigfen?"

The half-noldor's eyes meet Mat's gaze. A reluctant smile appears on his lips.

“In this hour of need, all those who are here to help His Grace are my friends, Sir knight, as he is most dear to me. But as to why I am not standing among the Silvermist Rangers; As they are the ones who are to investigate the Noldor's involvement in this matter, I thought it best to keep my distance. It is not my intention to alter their search for the truth in any way and no one shall be able to accuse me of secretly telling them secrets that I withhold from others. I am sure you will appreciate this.

Should you now wonder about my two guardians, know that these men were with me for months and have not reported back to their brethren since the the betrayal of Lady Ursula. Should not my word, nor that of the Rangers or their Grandmaster suffice to convince you, I offer you to leave these men in His Grace's custody until we know the truth. I also invite your order to post men around my house, to ensure that I will not break my word on not interfering.”

And with that Quifgen pauses, waiting for the Gauntlet's knight to respond.

The lazy stare of Sir Ibram darts across to the Ebony Knight, flaring abruptly with indignation as a subtle creak from his seat hints at the stirring of the knight as he storms to his feet.

"Couldn't stop a Noldor from assassinating the Duke? You think us so falliable? The hell you say, knave. I- We are the best at what we do, and be sure that if some jumped-up tree fairy makes an attempt on the Duke's life, I'll carve him from balls to brain and serve it to the Rangers on a platter."

The caustic tone of the knight simmers steadily as he remembers himself, glancing almost apologetically, yet almost accusingly to the Duke as he slowly settles back into his chair in an idle sprawl, armour groaning.
"It matters not, lords and ladies, who the assailants are. Not to me. When they come for the Duke, when they meet the King's Guard, Noldor arrows won't stop them from shitting their guts out in fear until they dry up and die."

A satisfied smirk draws itself across his charming visage, flashing the Duke's daughter with a predatory glance.
"Then you can talk to me about falliability."

Sir Kamos looks at Sir Ibram with a stern scowl on his face.

With a raised voice he says,

Royal Guard or not you are a Griffon Knight and you will keep your language more civil in while the noble court is sitting in session Sir Ibram.
Keep your bravado in check and stay mindful with your words.

He nods his head to the Duke and points Sir Ibram back to his seat.

The Duke was already raising his hand as Sir Kamos voice echoed through the hall. Duke Alamar stopped in his movement and looked visibly pleased about not being forced to restore order himself. He nods at Sir Kamos in return.

I barely suppressed my laugh. Court protocol was an odd beast, one that I had yet to master, and evidently, others in the room. I eyed the Silvermists, then spoke to Iskar. "We both know the Noldor better then this naive Griffin over here, I presume. Then tell me, which would win in this battle, an overconfident nobleman or a Noldor warrior?"

I had noted Sir Ibrams glance towards the Dukes daughter, but didn't mention it. Maybe the Griffins didn't hate me so much already, though I doubted it.

I then looked at Quigfen. "Well, if the assassins were not Noldor, then they will have wanted to flare public opinion by using Noldor arrows. They may want to cut off one of the few links to the Noldor in you, so I propose that you be kept here, under the infalliable," I said with sarcasm, "protection of the guard. Indeed, I may even allow some of my Ebony Gauntlets to guard you, as they are the premier foot warriors, in the case you may be attacked."

Iskar smiled at the little rhetorical trap set for him by the Gauntlet knight.

No matter who the assailants may be, he replied to Mat, if the knights of the Griffon cannot fend them off, no man can. They are those best trained at guarding important personalities and thus the force most apt to this task.

Anyway, I am still waiting for your answer to my offer. I would very much like to start the investigation as soon as possible. There's a murderer on the loose.

"Then maybe we had best get better protection then a royal jester. Anyway, I'll accompany you for the investigation when your ready." At that moment, the door creaked open, and another Gauntlet walked in. Leaning backward, I whispered to him for a while. With a nod of assent, he strolled off. A rubbed my face with the mailed gauntlet that we had become so famous before.

"This is ridiculous. I have things to be done tonight. We will begin the investigation tomorrow, I will be busy throughout the night. Quigfen, I'll send a small group of men to guard you, as it seems that the Griffins will be consumed with guarding the King."

Sir Orlando stood up, and for a moment, remained silent and unnoticed. He had heard enough of the incessant chatter amongst the opposing sides in the room, and couldn't let the current view on the Griffon be based upon Sir Ibram's last inquiry. He then coughed as though to signal to people in the meeting hall that he was about to make a statement, and he was going to.

"I must say, gentlemen, that I am overall displeased by the way this meeting has gone thus far. I can hardly say that we've really gotten to the point of why we are all here, in fact we've only touched upon the matter. I know as a fact that I and the rest of the Griffons are here to bring the law upon those who would so easily go against it, especially with such a great crime as attempting to assassinate the Duke of Laria, and good friend to the King! We cannot get caught up with petty quarrels and disagreements with such an important task ahead of us. I do, however, agree with the notion that the Silvermist Rangers have made. We should, by all means, take the least brash, and politically damaging way of solving our problem. We have to be civil and level-headed, not quick to assume! Sir Iskar, as your offer stands now, I would not think of it as an offer at all! Why, it should be an obligatory motion by this Knight of the Ebony Gauntlet, to assist in this matter! If we are to do what is meant to be done here: find the assassins, and bring them to justice, we must first agree upon the notion that that is why we are all here. I presume that we start were the Silvermist Rangers have suggested. They, along with help from the Ebony Gauntlet, should investigate Laria's underground, where we are more than likely to find clues on these suspicious Noldor arrows. The Knights of the Griffon, as already mentioned, will be here at Deloria Castle, protecting the Duke and his family, and are more than capable of completing this task. I'm not saying that we are invincible, and I'm not making any comparisons to the abilities of others, I'm simply stating that we are trained to be bodyguards, and are confident in our abilities. This seems like the best course of action we can currently take right now, to get about our task at hand, and be done with it! The sooner these assassins are found and brought to justice, the better. I must apologize if you consider this brash, but I'm simply stating that we came here for a reason, we should all know that reason, and we should all work together on an idea to get rid of this problem. I'm glad the Ebony Gauntlet is at least willing to assist in this matter, but to be successful we must not oppose one another."

With that being said, Sir Orlando sat himself down, not with a satisfied grin, but with a stern look upon his face. He wasn't all too sure what his approach upon things would look like to the others in the room, but he could only hope that his message was clear enough. He had also hoped that he wasn't directing too much disrespect towards the Ebony Gauntlet, since Sir Orlando's main proposal was objecting towards their own. He was prepared for any barrage of replies to his bold statement, whether they be accepting or denying of his proposal. Only the breaking of the now silent room could tell what the ultimate decision of the knights and nobles present, was.

"I have other motives also for investigating the underground, but I see no harm in helping the Silvermists in this matter on the way. I also agree with Orlando in the matter that the quarrels among us should stop for the time being. Ibram, if you hold your highborn tongue for now, then so shall I."

I left the room, leaving another EG behind to listen for me.

I thank you for your wise words, Sir Orlando, and, though it flatters me, you may omit the 'Sir' in front of my name, as I do not wish to adorn myself with noble titles I do not bear.
Now, with the permission of His Serene Highness we may also just begin the investigation right here and now:
Lords and Ladies of the Valorshield marches, has anyone of you observed suspicious actions lately that may be connected with the assault?

While the others in the room spoke, another Griffon carrier entered and handed a letter to Sir Darlion. The grandmaster opened it, and began reading.

And then he read it again.

Finally, he looked up at those gathered and stood, clearing his throat before speaking.

"The king requests my presence in Sarleon immediately. There has been a terrible tragedy out west, and a personal friend of mine has been slain. I won't pull any of my knights from this location, but is unknown if the king's life may be in danger. As such, I shall be leaving Sir Kamos in charge of the Griffon knights stationed here. If the situation here looks grim, contact me in Sarleon and I will send what support I can."

The Grandmaster then began heading towards the door, personal dicipline being all the kept him in a slow walk instead of a run. Finally, before he left the room, he turned a final time to the knights stationed around the table.

"May Pendor watch over you, and we do her."

And then Darlion was gone.

Iskar had sat down again and, while he was waiting for any of the nobles to speak up, scribbled some more words on a piece of parchment and handed it to one of his rangers who hurried out immediately.

Upon Iskar's request a multitude of fingers rose into the air. The muttering in the room mounted once more as small discussions erupted between various small groups. Soon most hands were lowered again, as the people they belonged got too entangled in their debates to care about anything else. Few new things were mentioned, though. Most discussions circled around the same issue that also divided the gathered knighthood of the different orders. Where the Noldor responsible? Could the possibility be denied? Most importantly; what measures could be taken to ensure the Duke's safety and learn the truth about the assassin's identities? The racket went on for maybe a minute, before Duke Alamar raised his hand once more and Steward Barrigan's strong voice silenced the gathered noblemen. Unsure glances were exchanged. Quigfen was the first to raise his hand again. The Duke gave him permission to speak.

If you allow, your Grace, I was not finished. As the Ranger Iskar suggested, I shall have a look at my books. I have already started going through the records of the last month and promise you that I will provide the investigators with a list of those people currently in possession of such arrows.

He turned towards the replacement of Sir Mat.

It was very noble of your comrade to offer me the protection of your order. However, as I am already protected by Silvermist Rangers, as well as chosen Noldor warriors, I fear inviting you into my home would only cause more trouble. If your men would not mind protection my mansion from the outside, however, I would be more than grateful for this gesture of good will.

I had sent two my Noldor warriors on a mission to bring word to the elder council about what happened here and to report back with any useful information they could uncover. I fear they have not returned yet. At this point, we cannot even be sure that they reached their destination. I would therefore advise to send another force into the forest, this time a larger group, yet small enough to be able to travel quickly through the woodlands. The Noldor need to know what is going on here and we need to know what intelligence or assistance they can offer.

Upon hearing this, Lord Fouchier steps forward. He almost snarls at the merchant.

You want us to send our men into the forest, to alarm what very well could be the ones responsible for trying to murder my father!? What nonsense is this? I for one agree with the Knights of the Ebony Gauntlet on this matter. The Noldor have never shied away from killing our people when they were in the mood for it. Their scouting parties harassed our caravans and supply lines and their Warlords hunted down our comrades and allies. By the gods, at times they caused us more grief than even the accursed Jatu!

We cannot be sure that they are not involved in this simply because of a few pretty speeches about peace and friendship. Words and oaths are easily broken by the wicked, the recent war should have taught us that only too well. After all, we are not even talking about humans here. I do not condemn them for that, but we all should be aware that blood commands loyalty. Their own people will always come first to them; they do not all have to be treacherous to turn against us. And as they will always watch out for their own, so will I both for my family, and my subjects. Right now we cannot trust the Noldor, and I say we forbid them to come near our settlements until this matter is resolved. The gates must be guarded more closely and we have to draw our forces together to show them nobody challenges the lords of the marches without consequences!”

Several of the present lords cheered at the last statement. Others just shook their heads. One of them was Lord Fouchier's younger brother Quentin. Again the muttering began to swell, but Barrigan immediately stepped him and restored the order. He looked tired by now and his eyes pleadingly switched to the Duke. The Duke nodded, yet one last time his gaze searched for raised arm. Maybe somebody still had something to add, before he would make his decision.

In all the excitement, one minor development went by completely unnoticed: It was about Lady Neldar. While she was still mostly looking towards the ground, her shy gaze occasionally rose to brush one of the knights present in her father's hall. As his eyes met hers by accident, she quickly averted her gaze. The young lady blushed, a reluctant, timid smile now adorning her lips. Apparently Sir Orlando had aroused her interest.

Aldric watched as Lord Fouchier make his speech. At the end, of the speech he put his hand on his forehead and shook his head in disagreement. He raised his hand, stood up and spoke when he was given permission.

War breeds war, force answers with force, and death will only bring death. They only fight and kill us because we choose to fight and kill them. We have reaped what we sowed. If we are ever to break this cycle, one must do more than act with any thought or doubt. It has been ages ago since the fight begun with the Humans against Noldor. And up til now, it was a never ending fight. But now fate has given us this chance. This chance to stop this fight and end it forever.

Aldric looks at Lord Fouchier.

The Noldor fought you because you choose to fight back. If we can show our trust in them, eventually their trust in us. This will be true because we Silvermists have done and have, more or less, the Noldor's trust. But I do agree with you to not let any Noldor in. If they are indeed the true assassins, they will be too dangerous to deal with here. But that is only temporary. Once this sitution is taken care of, admittance to the town should be allowed to the Noldor again. We should monitor everyone in town, including coming or going, with a bow. You can not shoot an arrow without a bow. It will be hard to do this but it's just something we should give a try.

Aldric sits down again.

OOC: Props to the ones that can recognize where the first two lines came from.

Sir Kamos stands again to speak, he gaze at everyone in the crowd slowly sweeping his head across the room looking through most people. He would occasionally make eye contact with the Duke, some of the Rangers, Quigfin, and the Ebony representative.

The Griffons have been sent here to guard the Duke and his family however we have brought plenty of men with us. As such I am willing, and may push, to spare a few men here and there to aid the investigation process or act as a force of arbitration should conflicts arrive.

It is the Kings will that we are allied with the Noldor House Ithilrandir with a defensive pact with the rest of the Noldor and I will not tolerate seeing this effort be undermined by hatred, no matter the justification. Security precautions are necessary but it would not be wise to seek trouble outwardly. The search is for assassins, their background is of little consequence and only their motives matter here I would suggest. For now at least.

As for letting Noldor into the city? I suggest allow it but deny entrance and/or proximity to the castle except for Quigfin as he is necessary as a representative. If some Noldor are involved it may be better to have them where we have eyes and ears here in the city. Security will be very very tight around the castle now after all.

Furthermore I second Quigfins motion that we ensure contact with Noldor council. Even if they cannot provide assistance it's a good gesture and maybe useful to know how they desire to handle this in cooperation if the assassins are indeed Noldor. I can spare some retainers to help if necessary and would be willing to supervise the operation myself if requested.

He lets out a sigh as he does after all such long winded sessions and rested back into his chair.

He turned his head to face Aldric, with a ghost of a smile on his lips. "The Noldor only fight because we fight back, you say? So if we were to watch them burn our cities and destroy the civilization King Mordred has worked to so hard to create, then the Noldor would be content? That if we were to bow our heads and let them rule over us, to abuse us, to kill us, then the Noldor would leave us alone!? Your Knighthood disgusts me, Aldric, for its cowardice!"

"Even now, you imply that we were the ones that have started this ancient battle, that we were always the ones that were wrong... How do you know this, brave knight, if it is hidden away from even you, in the mists of time? Did the Noldor tell you this also, that we were always the ones to fault!? Prove to me that it was the just men of long ago that started this battle, and not the rats hiding in their trees."

Nearly shaking with his disgust for the Silvermists, he turns to face Lord Fouchier. With a more level voice he continued. "Lord Fouchier, what say we were to patrol the countryside? The Silvermists, well, it would be best to help them. Together, you and I could keep the Larian woods free of any more assassins, and more besides that."

~~~
He went silent for a moment, thinking on what Kamos had said, then replied. "Let Quigfen leave. He has his dogs to guard him, and many who will let their arms be cut off to help a Noldor friend." I stared pointedly at the Silvermists. "The Noldor can operate better out of town besides. They will be harassed by the public if they are seen, and for good reason, most likely."
Lord Bromr breathed heavily. Whenever he thought that the Silvermists might do something useful, they always ruined it tenfold...
