Hmm, maybe your fortifications at Laria are too high to look over?

As for the events: Singal and Ethos are nearing their completion. Javiksholm is safe within the last third.

I'l be posting with Mastifus regarding the Mystmountains in a bit. Needed some time to think about the issues at hand.

Heh, in my mind that island works just like Romania for the Roman empire. "Eastern barbarians? Let's solve that by giving lands at the border to our soldiers, they'll know how to defend themselves."

POST BELOW: I don't even notice it. Here, let me compensate by retro-posting Smile

POST BELOW II: pirates will be hanged. Sterilize Scorch the island first, just for precaution, then we allow the Mystmountaneers in.

How inhospitable are the mystmountains?

I would assume harsher than ravenstern, but there would have to be thawing at least in summer so that they can get there own food. If their entire population depends on pillaged food it does not seem likely for them to maintain a large enough population to be an active problem for the south.

A very reasonable PM asked a few questions which I think would do better in public;

Quote :
Would you please make a post clarifying a few things as we discuss solutions?

1) Besides raiding, what kind of economic situation are the Mystmountain Tribes in? I assumed very minimal agriculture and animal raising, but with most of the food coming from either the raids or occasionally trading for furs or minerals.

2) What is really the economic situation on the Steppe? You'd said that it doesn't have any farm-land to speak of, so the settlers must be trying to make ends meet as pastoralists... but how successful are the Veccavi eunuchs at that trade?

1. Raiding is the primary form of income and sustenance, they make some use of horse breeding and ranching though. Primarily hardy northern cattle and goats. It is almost impossible to farm in those northern reaches.

2. Varying, cattle has taken well to the steppe, however the winters are hard and the death toll is high. They also have very little experience as cattle herders, though they are learning quickly through necessity. It should be mentioned that the winters have been fairly mild since they settled, and they have yet to be truly tested.

EDIT; I feel that I should also point out that the Jatu are all but vanquished in the Steppe at this point. There is only one known band that yet remains in enough numbers to do any damage, but they seem far more pre-occupied with remaining away from the armies of Pendor and only very, very rarely actually raid anything or draw attention to themselves.

Not much more I can say on that as it pertains to PoP4, and I do not wish to spoil that.

Silvermists have planned and are about start working and researching ways for improving the condition of the steppes. The constable will tell you more if he judges you worthy.

EDIT: I should also point out that an eventual settlement of the tribes within Pendorian territory will mean additional costs
for order with most influence in that duchy. The order will have to give them food and protection during the adaptation months (years), and also be able to provide them with raw materials, such as lumber, stone, clothing, and cattle. The tribes are not expected to become self-sufficient in just a couple of weeks.

Are we really going to wait for every grandmaster to express consent about the marcher provinces?

Which leads to the question: who is the Griffon 2nd-in-command?

Kamos and Pravenstern are. Yes. Both.

It's what we worked out. I technically hold a slightly higher position to stop deadlocks but otherwise we act together.

Because people have asked;

* A Noble may call his banners which are 50x the Hex Value of that county (bearing in mind a regiment must contain 100 men, this rounds down).
* There is the Law of Halves which reduces this by 50%
* Marcher Status increases it by 50% (thereby effectively negating the Law of Halves, though they are not permitted to raise the banners outside of a war situation, and this should be an external threat)

15% of raised regiments are Knights (rounding down)
35% of raised regiments are Regulars (rounding down)
50% of raised regiments are Militia (the remainder)

Therefore, if the county of Montecristo had a value of 14, the Count of Montecristo could raise 3 Regiments under normal circumstances.
0 Knights
1 Regulars
2 Militia

If he was the Margrave of Montecristo then he could raise 7 Regiments.
1 Knights
2 Regulars
4 Militia

If he was the Margrave of Montecristo, and the Law of Halves was lifted then he could raise 10 Regiments
1 Knights
3 Regulars
6 Militia

A Duke may call the banners of all their Counts, however a Marcher Duke gets no bonus, they are more likely to have Margraves in their Duchy.

So you see that making Poinsbruk a marcher province instead of Laria will reduce the Silvermist power while strenghtening the the lords favourable to the Dragons. Well played, Mastifus.

Remember guys, Celduir exists too. You have to wait for him to vote as well before saying the Eventide had cast their vote.

It's all up to Azlanek really, when he appoints a second in command. If we had to make a temporary one for this event however, I would say Celduir has more authority, as he is a Knight-Chaplain and Varys is just an evil pure, honorable Knight.

Having formal votes would probably be a good thing if we're going to claim a specific Order is supporting something. Unless it is OOCly acknowledged that it is an IC ploy rather than an honest interpretation... then continue with the ploys.

Clarifying that all we need is a simply majority (5 out of 8 ).

It would still be best if every Order is able to cast a vote, so everyone has the opportunity to make clear where they stand to the King. Wink

Do you guys really want to work out how the Duchies are designated, or leave it to the King? (he will not be offended, it was the provinces he was most interested in).
