If I could have an OOC summary of troop placements. When the event starts I will sort out wind and other conditions as well, so ship placement will be an issue as well. If you want I can give you a very basic summary of sailing, could help the naval RP.

So how are we going to proceed with these individual pc-led patrol actions; will we go in scene by scene in RP, make pc decisions when an event occurs during our "patrol", or are we going to stick to autocalc dice rolls? Want to open it up b/c we have some good opportunaties for rp, but I dont want us to drain the GMs and ourselves by doing this western patrol gig for out-of-game months like what happened with javiksholm.

The 'Sheriff' improvement is considered coming with a sheriff and a local patrol force of no more than 30 men like the ones spawning in game when you build a sheriff in a village. The sentry outposts can be considered as a number of watch towers guarding the more important villages and roads, so the Sheriff patrol (~30) plus maybe 20 men for manning the towers, i.e. no more than 50 men in total.
A Town Watch is basically militia troops patrolling the town. In contrast to the Sheriff patrol they add actual player-controlled troops in case of an attack, but they always stay near the city and are only available for defense. (100 militia spearmen for town watch and additional 100 militia archers for a city watch.)

Sheriff and Sentry troops can be used in roleplay but not for serious battles or metagame issues like the Watch.

So far we handled these forces as answering directly to the local authorities, such as city councils, village stewards and the castellans of local holdfasts, rather than directly to the lord. Of course the ultimate authority lies with the lord, but the question is whether he would bother caring for these petty militia forces.
I could imagine that a hostile lord would order his men not to cooperate, but usually their cooperation would depend more on whether one manages to gain the trust of the local authorities.

One of the more feared jarls, made his name before the unification wars for being extremely cunning and ruthless. Is known to be responsible for the destruction of a number of knight patrols, and is one of the best sailors the Vanskerries have.

He has taken on a more mythical stature, so most rumours concerning him are just that, with no real useful information. The Dawn did not have any specific dealings with him, although he usually left no survivors.

He is also known for a number of vilalge raids and slipping around blocking elements and ambushes.
