Of course Captain. You've done well.

Reiner had turned most of his attention to the closed door by now. With a few hand motions, he had ordered a pair of Silvermists to prepare to open the door, shields ready.

Alright, open it, and lets see where this leads before the night ends.

Your men open the door slowly, they have their shield up and their swords ready. As the door is opened further the wind draft becomes stronger. Your men advance slowly but everything seems calm. You quickly reach a tunnel which continues for a long time and is badly lit in many areas. After at least 10 minutes of slowly advancing through the tunnel you see stairs leading upwards. Your men still advance and open the other door at the other side of the tunnel. As they step out into the steppe they can't see much, as they turn around they see the city of Eastcrown with the huge Castle behind them. The tunnel was clearly build to enter and leave the city without anyone seeing it. Just a few seconds afterwards a group of riders approach you from the direction of the Goldmine.

"Sir Alaric is that you? We saw a rider in the steppes and tried to follow him but he was too far away, he came out of this tunnel I guess. What were you doing down there?"

Reiner looked displeased at the news of someone escaping from this tunnel, it meant that news of the Brotherhood hideout's purge was going to reach other Brotherhood gangs. He looked back at the Clarion Rangers before answering.

Just rooting out the rats and seeing where their bolt hole led. As far as I understand our mission is going well. Return to the city via the steppes, we will head back through this tunnel and destroy it.

Turning to the Silvermists who had accompanied him, he started back through the tunnel.

Remove the supports for the tunnel as you go, but be careful, I don't want you getting buried in the cave in that will seal this.

Leaving the rangers to their task, Reiner headed back through the tunnel to the city of Eastcrown before heading back through the streets with a small escort of militia that had been hanging about the are. He left the rangers that were still at the scene to wrap up before walking back to the castle, thinking about what had happened that night. Many Brotherhood Guildsmen killed and captured, false Silvermist uniforms, and a Brotherhood hideout put to the sword. All in all, a successful night, he wondered if the Lord Constable and Sir Cumberbatch would be pleased.

You made your way back through the tunnel, behind you hear your men breaking down the supports. As you reach the Alsmhouse again everything is quiet, most of the Garrison is already gone with the prisoners and the wounded. As you continue further to the Castle the Rangers catch up to you.

"The tunnel is destroyed and the beggars are moving back into the Alsmhouse."

As you walk through the gate of the Castle you hear faint cries of pain from the infirmary. Many men of the Garrison and some of your Rangers are sitting in the Yard cleaning their weapons or just relaxing. One of the Rangers got up and walks over to you.

"Greetings Sir Alaric, we feared for you, you are the last one to arrive. The prison is bursting right now, we caught at least 8 members of the Brotherhood alive and then another 13 men who wanted to flee when we charged the buildings. We don't know their affiliation yet. Unfortunately we lost 10 men Garrison and the medicus is fighting for the live of one more. I can give you correct numbers by tomorrow. The Captain is as well in the infirmary."

OOC: Sorry for me taking so long to respond.

Post extra men at the cells. I don't want them overwhelming the guards.

Alaric reached up and rubbed his eyes, it had been a long night.

I am going to see if SIr Cumberbatch is awake, come and find me when the sky is bright, just before Dawn. I will talk to the captain then, give the man some time to rest. For the rest of you..... just get some rest and maintain your gear, good work, all of you.

Reiner turned and walked into the castle, finding the way to the Old Shadow Legionaires room easily enough and rapped on the heavy wooden door with a mailed gauntlet.

The door opens at the slightest touch, as you enter you see Valerian still in his bed, the Captain is in the bed at his side and the medicus is just dealing with his wound. They are talking very silent. As you come closer you can hear the last of their conversation.

"... what do you think that means, the tabards were of bad quality, it would have fooled no experienced Guardsman."

As you come closer Valerian looks at you and smiles.

"Sir Alaric, you finally returned, and in piece. I am glad you made it."

I'm simply glad to still be in one piece Sir. Forgive my appearance, there has been no time to worry about how I look. Reiner looked down at the blood stained tabard he was wearing.

I see that the Captain has already brought you up to speed on what we found. I wanted to ask your opinion on that as well as what we should do with the new prisoners as well. My orders are explicit, the Brotherhood in this region is being put down. Permanently. But before that, do you think there is a way to convince one of them to talk?

Valerian sat up straight and looked the Ranger into the eyes.

"I think they were here for the gold. The goldmine is not much guarded and I don't think that the few which are there are able to distinguish between the real and fake Silvermist robe. There is not much more here other than Gold and the research facility of the Silvermists. And I don't think they wanted to break into the research room. Regarding the prisoners, I will not tell you what to do, everyone has their limits and I won't burden you with mine, this will be your decision."

The young Clarion Call ranger was quiet for some time. His gaze moving from the old knight to a spot on the wall as he tried to make up his mind with what had to be done and what should be done. Eventually he knew he had to speak.

I think it is past the time where Eastcrown had a Silvermist presence permanently. Between the mine and research this town is too important to not have at least a few rangers here at any given time. I will write to Lord Constable Iskar and give him my recommendation on what is to be done here. Furthermore, the foot rangers that are here will stay here, tasked with watching over the gold mines and research laboratory. If the Lord Constable feels my actions and recommendation is wrong, he can withdraw them at any time.

Reiner sighed, looking downcast, this was the part that he had not wanted to admit to himself.

As for our guests in the cells, they are not going to live much longer. I will order them executed. Publicly. It will send a message to the Brotherhood that the Silvermists will not tolerate them in Eastcrown any longer. The milita can get to work constructing gallows today and the executions carried out tomorrow morning.

The Captain looked at Sir Alaric while he spoke and nodded in agreement.

"It is the correct decision, they knew what their fate would be if they got caught. I have no compassion for them, they deserve to die. Furthermore I thank you for the Silvermists you will leave here, they are always welcome."

The old Centurion added shortly afterwards.

"Yes you are right, If we don't kill them they will come back, and the populace needs to know that we can protect them."

Reiner gripped the pommel of his sword as he inclined his head respectfully towards the two.

Thank you for your counsel and aid in this matter commander, Sir Cumberbatch. I will take my leave now to see to the final stages of this. I wish you both a speedy recovery.

Reiner turned and marched out of the room, deliberately taking a path that lead to the courtyard and stayed as far away from the dungeons as he could. After giving the militia orders to construct a large set of gallows in the marketplace he told the SIlvermists of what his decision was.

So that is what will happen. You twenty will be stationed in Eastcrown until further notice. Half will be stationed at the mine, half in the city. You will rotate spots on a weekly basis. Do you have any questions? If not, does anyone have ink and something to write on? The Lord Constable must be informed.

The day after the great raid was over very fast. After Sir Alaric wrote the letter he quickly succumbed to much needed sleep. He was woken by Sir Cumberbatch and the Captain who brought him up to date with the Prisoners. All in all there were nine members of the Brotherhood which got caught and twelve other criminals. The members of the Brotherhood were brought before a small council and sentenced to die. The fate of the other criminals will be decided at a later date.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The marketplace was crowded, it seemed like everyone was there to watch the spectacle. Nine gallows were build in the centre of the great square. The convicts were guarded by men of the Silvermist Rangers as they were walked through the crowd. From the left and right foul vegetables and eggs were thrown and the sound of the crowd was overwhelming. The nine men were placed at their positions and the crowd fell silent. Sir Cumberbatch, Sir Alaric and the Captain of the Guard were standing on the construction as well. The two meters around the Gallows were blocked off by men of Militia which stood guard and watched the crowd.

Alright, let's keep this brief..... Reiner moved to the front and center of the platform and help up his hands for the crowds attention. As the crowd saw him, they shifted their gazes to him so he had numerous pairs of eyes staring up eagerly at him. Taking a breath to calm himself, he began to speak loudly, loud enough so even those in the back could hear.

People of Eastcrown! My name is Alaric Reiner of the Silvermist Order! I was sent here to find and destroy the canker that is the Red Brotherhood! Reiner pointed at the chained line of men awaiting execution. After today your city should be remarkably safer, at least for a short time. I will be leaving men of the Silvermists here in your city to help the milita safeguard it against further troubles. Reiner looked at the man by the lever for the trapdoors of the gallows and raised his hand. Now let this be a lesson for the Red Brotherhood; the Silvermists will not tolerate their presence any longer! Reiner dropped his hand to signal the man to activate the lever.

The crowd fell silent when the trapdoors opened. Just a few seconds afterwards the shouting began.

"They deserved it! Criminal Scum! All hail the Silvermists!"

Just after that the crowd burst into a praise of the Silvermists. This lasted for about ten minutes until the members of the Militia, the Rangers and all other Soldiers left for the Castle. The dead bodies were cut of the ropes and brought well outside of the City to be buried in the steppes. It was decided that the gallows should be left standing for at least a week to remind everyone of what happened here and that the Silvermists would not tolerate anything unlawful.

Reiner was shortly on his way back to Laria with the 20 Rangers of teh Clarion Call, his work in Eastcrown, for now, completed. He left behind the Silvermist contingent of his forces in accordance with the decision that had been reached in the discussion with Sir Cumberbatch and the militia Captain.

Alaric Reiner is now headed back to/is at Laria.
