Oh ok, i'm only on book 2 at the moment XD

Yeah, I strongly suspect that SoIF started out as a low magic setting, but has become increasingly magical.

Except the Dragons and Icey dudes of course.

That's my biggest issue with it. It was deceptive! I have things I dislike about Martin's style, and a few choices he made, but that's just part of getting into a series.


The magic is what makes me facepalm. It started off as a wonderful political intrigue-drama. By the end of book 5 it's pushed into normal fantasy.

"Magic" can be unique.

Dragons are just cliche.

Otherwise it's a good book.

Not really. A growing premise seems to be that after ages long past of a world without magic it is now returning to the world.

that is why I said 'so far' next two books will be filled with dragons all grown up and an army of unstoppable icy-things. Not to mention those annoying Rh'Llor types and the full power of the Greenseer.

I think we should stop now or label everything we say as spoiler ... not everyone here read all the books...

Of course, that's the point of team match. But it's better if you work it out by PMing Aranor. As your plans might influence your choice of weapons, just PM when you have decided.

No. For organizational purposes I'll handle the first and penultimate groups, and then the others once these are finished. But other hosts may choose your group whenever they want.
